FC Bayern Munich are expecting VfL Bochum for the Oktoberfest home game on Saturday. How does coach Thomas Tuchel line up?
Munich – It's been a year since Julian Nagelsmann was coach of FC Bayern Munich. They lost the derby in Augsburg with 0:1, which is why there was a hangover mood even before the traditional Oktoberfest visit. Now, 370 days later, Thomas Tuchel has long since taken the helm – and Nagelsmann has been introduced as national coach. That's how fast things can go in football.

FC Bayern are expecting VfL Bochum for their Oktoberfest home game
The question remains: How will FC Bayern serve at the Oktoberfest this year? On Sunday, the stars will get dressed up, and the Beetle will then celebrate a home victory. The Munich team want to win it against VfL Bochum on Saturday. The fans have maintained a friendship for decades, but there have been few niceties from the record champions on the pitch in the recent past: In February 2023, they won 3-0, and in August 2022 they even swept the Westphalians off the pitch 7-0.
And on September 23, 2023? The Tuchel team is of course the favourite, but the coach must first decide on a line-up. And that's where it gets tricky again. Once again, Tuchel will have to bench one of his top centre-backs. Will it hit Matthijs de Ligt again?
Bayern line-up against Bochum: Tuchel dilemma ahead of duel with friends
The Dutchman has been at the back of Bayern for weeks, can't get past Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano. Tuchel stressed at the press conference that he "deserved to play" – but the defensive dilemma before the duel with the Bochum friends remains. Because as long as Bayern win, as they recently did against Manchester United, a coach doesn't have many arguments for big changes.
This also applies to Noussair Mazraoui, who has lost his regular place at the back right to Konrad Laimer. Mazraoui must "fight, fight and fight" to become an issue for the starting eleven again, as Tuchel stressed.

FC Bayern Munich line-up against VfL Bochum: Laimer and Musiala back in the starting line-up?
In the starting line-up against Bochum, Alphonso Davies is likely to be in the starting line-up against Bochum alongside Laimer, Upamecano and Kim. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka should also be placed in front of the defensive line, while Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané could start again behind centre-forward Harry Kane. Whereby noble joker Mathys Tel has once again proven his value and would have long been ripe for a use from the start - a second Tuchel dilemma. Here we actually see the young Frenchman ahead of Gnabry. Thomas Müller, on the other hand, will probably have to make friends with the bank once again.
Predicted line-up for FC Bayern Munich against VfL Bochum: Ulreich – Laimer, Upamecano, Kim, Davies – Kimmich, Goretzka – Tel, Musiala, Sané – Kane. (akl)
