Maccabi Tel Aviv's preparatory journey for the start of the 2023/24 season continues tonight (Friday) in Nicosia, Cyprus, where the Yellows meet Red Star Belgrade. On Saturday, the Israeli champions will play against Olympiacos and then return to Israel before Yom Kippur, ahead of the Winner's Cup quarterfinal match against Ironi Kiryat Ata on Tuesday.
Along with a good performance in victories over Hapoel Holon at Yad Eliyahu and Fenerbahce in the opening of the Galis tournament last week, Maccabi Tel Aviv looked worse against Panathinaikos in a game that closed the tournament in Greece. The team hopes to show improved ability thanks to the week of training since the game against the strong Pau, and continue the trend into the opening tournament in Israel.
Red Star Belgrade is aiming to return to the Euroleague playoffs this year, and in order to do so has strengthened in all sectors. The Serbian team brought back two of the best old local players – Milos Teodosic and Nemanja Bjelica – along with a host of impressive foreigners such as American Buzz Napier, Hungarian Adam Hanga, Brazilian Iago dos Santos, Lithuanian Roxas Gaidraitis, Mike Tovey who holds Slovenian citizenship and Ukrainian Joel Bulumbui. This group joins Duško Ivanovic's team with veteran Nemanja Nedovic.
