More than 100 games, plus marketing staff at her club: Maddy Cusack was an integral part of Sheffield United - now she has died at the age of only 27.
Sheffield – British football bids farewell to Madeleine Cusack. The traditional club Sheffield United announced on Thursday 21 September the death of the professional player, who had played more than 100 games for the "Blades". Cusack was only 27 years old – there was initially no confirmed information about the exact cause of death.

In addition to her role as a player, Cusack was also involved in marketing for the South Yorkshire club, giving her a dual role at Sheffield United. In the club's official statement, she is characterized as a "respected player" and a "valued colleague".
CEO Stephen Bettis said: "This is heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane. Maddy had the unique position of being part of a number of teams at Sheffield United and was popular with everyone she came into contact with. Through her personality and professionalism, she made her family proud – she will be sorely missed. The club will support Maddy's family, friends and colleagues as much as they can."

Sheffield United have dyed their red, white and black club logo completely black on all social media. Cusack joined the club, whose women's team plays in the English second division, in 2019. She was the first player to reach the impressive 100-game mark with the Blades, renewing her contract in July.
Under the sad announcement released by the club, there were numerous expressions of condolences. Also on Cusack's personal Instagram account, there were many reactions under the most recently published photos. Among other things, it says: "Beautiful girl. May you rest in peace, you beautiful soul. God put your arms around your poor family at this time."
