As anticipated for several weeks, Amine Gouiri will represent the Fennecs. Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi announced in the mixed zone at the beginning of September that the change of sporting nationality of the former Nice player was "settled from an administrative point of view". Subsequently, the coach of the Fennecs had said on RMC that the 23-year-old striker would choose to play for Algeria. This Tuesday, it is the Rennes striker himself who formalized his decision on his account X (formerly Twitter): "With pride, I announce my decision to join the Algerian selection I will defend body and soul the jersey of the Fennecs to carry high the colors of our country and contribute to write the next pages of its rich history."
The striker trained at Olympique Lyonnais still wanted to thank the youth France teams where he went: "My years spent in the France team will remain forever engraved in me. Thanks for everything. Now is the time for a new chapter."
Amine Gouiri played 72 games with the France's youth teams, from 2016 until July 2023. The Rennes had never been called up by Didier Deschamps in the first team.
