The first Tel Aviv derby of the 2023/24 season brings together Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Tel Aviv for a battle marking more than 9 years without a red victory in meetings between city rivals. The game started half an hour later than planned, due to heavy queues outside Bloomfield Stadium. Both clubs are still unbeaten since the start of the season, with the hosts in sixth place with 5 points, and the guest in yellow with 7 points in second place in the table, but as mentioned, the two with a game less.

On the red side of the city, Michael Valkanis comes with a lot of belief that it is possible to "get a good result", and has chosen to come up with an attacking line-up with the exception of Alain Ojebolt who has been placed in the squad, Omri Altman, Mavis Chibota and Hisham Lajos will complete a front quartet that will try to challenge Maccabi's defence. Or Israelov and Dan Einbinder, who have been in pain in recent days, are also fit and started at Hapoel's 11.

Robbie Keane, on the other hand, knows how significant the derby is for the yellow crowd, and made two changes from the starting 11 in the Conference League victory over Breidblick with Gabi Kanikowski replacing Osher Davide and Nir Bitton replacing Derrick Lucassen in the centre of defence. Dan Bitton, along with Kanikovsky, Milson and Eran Zahavi completed the front that will try to maintain the monstrous record in the derby.
