Watch the recap: Maccabi Haifa twice came back from behind en route to a 2-3 win over Maccabi Netanya, paired with Piero/Sport1
Maccabi Haifa came out of a difficult period tonight (Sunday) with a 2-3 away victory over Maccabi Netanya in an exciting game. The Greens fell behind twice, but Charon Sherry on a penalty and Franzi Pierrot with a first pair in the Premier League set up a second league win this season and some quiet before a tough series of games that includes Panathinaikos, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Villarreal, Beitar Jerusalem and the Haifa derby.
Panathinaikos, who will arrive in Haifa on Thursday for a match in the second round of the Europa League group stage, escaped a 2-2 home defeat in the 96th minute against PAOK Thessaloniki tonight. Alexander Yermieff, the Swedish striker who was nominated for Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Be'er Sheva last year, sealed the dramatic equaliser. Ivan Jovanovic's side now sit third in the Greek league, six points clear of leaders Olympiacos, but also with a game to complete.
"Crazy pace, but it's fun." Masai at the end/Bernie Ardov
Dego, Kozuch, Sari: Reactions after Maccabi Haifa's 2-3 victory over Maccabi Netanya/Sport1
Masaiconcluded: "It was important to get a victory to embark on a new path. You've seen the attitude of the players. We said we had to be respected, and today we were the most intense we've been this year. We conceded twice but we scored three goals and could have scored more. I believe we can take it to the game against Panathinaikos and from there to Beersheba. It's a crazy pace, but it's fun."
On Sherry: "I also told him - I believe there should be one leader, the captain, and he is our undisputed leader. In the last two difficult weeks, I've seen him pick up the guys and talk to everyone. Frenzy? I also appreciate him, he works hard, sometimes it looks like he's missing out, but I believe he'll give a great season."
On the defense: "I don't hide behind it, I told the players that if we don't concede in the second half we will win, and we made adjustments. I hate conceding goals, we need to improve our defence, but I'm happy that our attacking game was excellent."
On the pressure: "At this club Maccabi Haifa you can lose again and the pressure will return. This club is nervous, I feel it, but I'm happier to be in these places than to be at ease."
On Dia Seba, who was not a partner, and the substitutions: "At half-time I didn't have to make any changes. Seba? Today I thought he shouldn't be used, but I believe in him and know he'll give what he knows."
Was not satisfied. Dia Seba/Bernie Ardov
CaptainCharon Sherry: "I feel today was the most important game, and I'm glad we won, and the most important thing is the three points. We talked a lot in the game, we talked a lot before the game and in meetings, it was a tough week, but we knew we were better than what we showed on the pitch. The relationship with Dego? He always gets the biggest criticism, and I'm glad I can help him, and the team."
