Women's D1: lacking efficiency, PSG bows to OL

Highlights: Lyon beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in Champions League first leg. Eugenie Le Sommer scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute. Lyon coach Jocelyn Prêcheur was on the bench for her first game in charge of the team. The second leg will take place in Saint-Étienne on Friday evening (3rd day), and especially in Manchester on Tuesday 10 October, for the 2nd round first leg of the Champions League.

The Parisiennes tried a lot without managing to score against Lyon (0-1) who benefited from the realism of the inevitable Le Somm

Removed and rich in opportunities on both sides, this PSG - OL gave rise to a pleasant game. Finally, except for the Parisiennes who struggled, but saw Le Sommer destroy their hopes after 20 minutes, on one of the rare Lyon opportunities.

However, the Paris camp has certainly strengthened its conviction that it will be able, in the future, to challenge OL's leadership. The coach Hervé Renard was present in the stands and must have appreciated, as the public who filled a small third of the stadium approximately.

The first quarter of an hour is to the advantage of the Parisiennes. These most often go through the left, looking for Baltimore and Chawinga in particular, both very agitated.

After which, it is the turn of Lyon to gradually get into action and the players of Jocelyn Prêcheur, for her first on the bench as coach number 1, to spend a bad quarter of an hour.

Horan, the first, unleashes a strike from the right of 25 meters, which passes quite far to the right of the goal of Picaud (16th). Then, the threat becomes clearer when Bacha sends a cannonball with his left foot. Picaud manages to divert the ball on his right post, before turning around to seize it (17th).

But three minutes later, the penalty falls for PSG. Bacha hits a free-kick from far away for the Paris penalty area. On the right side, Egurrola put his head back on the opposite side. Le Sommer, escaping his counterpart, rushes to deceive Picaud with a right foot recovery close to his left post (0-1, 20th).

Obviously, the players of the capital, crumpled, do not remain without reacting. They go back to the assault of the Lyon goal, while the Rhodaniennes, fall back into a feigned passivity, while waiting for the opportunity of a counter-attack.

Captain Geyoro first sees her recovery diverted by Endler, the opposing goalkeeper, at the price of a beautiful reflex (24th). Then, after an attempt by Chawinga was countered by Renard, the same Geyoro framed a good strike that Endler came out of a tap over his crossbar (33rd).

"We cannot be satisfied with this defeat"

At the break, it is clear that the Parisiennes tried more than their opponents, but that the latter were more clinical.

After the rest, the PSG players come back even more determined. The new attempts of Karchaoui, Geyoro or Baltimore remain futile, as Endler is intractable.

At the hour of play, however, Picaud deflected in extremis of the hand a powerful header of Eggurola (58th). Unfortunately for Paris, the entry into play of Katoto (75th) did not change the case. "We wanted to show our game in front of our home crowd," says Grace Geyoro. We take a goal on a set piece. We don't win, it doesn't pay, but the season is long. In view of our performance, there are inevitably regrets. »

For Prêcheur Jr. and his players, the next meetings are in Saint-Étienne on Friday evening (3rd day), and especially in Manchester on Tuesday 10 October, against United for the 2nd round first leg of the Champions League. "I'm disappointed, frustrated. We are still missing something, analyzes the Parisian technician. We saw a conquering Paris, but only at times. This is one of our areas of progress. We cannot be satisfied with this defeat and console ourselves by saying at home, there is only one goal difference. ».
