From anonymous to stars of the circuit. Since Sunday, the whole world of cycling has been paying tribute to Peter Sagan. On social networks the messages are in the thousands. Considered the last real rock star of the circuit with his ultra bright smile, his different haircuts, his eternal proximity to the public and his XXL record, the Slovakian rider ended his immense career on the road this weekend at the end of the Tour de Vendée. A race won by Arnaud Démare. Now a member of the Arkéa-Samsic team, the Frenchman won his 94th career victory.

Peter Sagan has 121 road wins. This places him among the legends of his sport. At 33, the three-time world champion (2015, 2016 and 2017) and seven-time winner of the green jersey on the Tour de France (a record) will now devote himself to mountain biking with the Paris 2024 Games in sight. For this, he plans to compete in a few smaller road races as a land preparation, but no more event at World Tour level, the first division of world cycling.

Thank you and long live the Tour!! 🇫🇷🇫🇷 https://t.co/raLOPxt3Bp

In the meantime he received a rain of tributes and testimonies on social networks. Some to salute his record, others to regret his departure and also to point out his whimsical side.

Thanks so much ❤️ You have to admit though, I added some nice colour to the photo 💚 💚 https://t.co/cU2NJR3hP9

Among the messages we can mention that of the Ineos team which posted a photo where the interested party is embedded in a photo of the British team in 2019. While Egan Bernal, crowned this year on the Tour de France, raises the glass as usual with his partners, we can see Sagan in the background, happy with his effect.
