Nemanja Matic, master of the middle
Recruited this summer to bring his experience, the Serbian midfielder was present in this derby. Very serene ball at the foot, just technically and smart to recover, the former Chelsea player reigned in the midfield tonight. Even his roublardise on several shots benefited his team and made the Nantes unpin. With Matic at this level, it's immediately easier for Stade Rennais.
Amine Gouiri, reasons for hope
Transparent at the beginning of the season, the OL-trained striker has finally shown interesting things in support of Turkey's Yildirim. Dangerous on several occasions (5 shots), he undermined the Nantes defense with his ball catches and dribbling in the direction of the game. His performance is still perfectible but Gouiri, who decided to defend the colors of the Fennecs of Algeria, seems to have found colors. Encouraging for the future.
Désiré and Guela, two very "gifted" brothers
Winning coaching by Bruno Genesio. Entered in the 70th minute, the great hope of the training center, Désiré Doué (18 years old), gave victory to Rennes on his first ball (74th). Then, his brother Guela (20), right-back, got the penalty of 3-1 converted by Kalimuendo at the end of extra time. Both substitutes at kick-off, the two brothers perfectly seized their chance to win this derby. Gifted parents can be proud!

Flops
Mostafa Mohamed missed his appointment
2nd top scorer in Ligue 1 (5 goals) behind Kylian Mbappé, the Egyptian was expected as the Nantes offensive leader. He eventually missed his match, touching very few balls despite his efforts. Worse, the number 31 of the Canaries saw red after a blood stroke as surprising as useless. No opportunity and two yellow cards for protest, that's Mohamed's chase tonight. Insufficient and regrettable since he will miss, at least, the next meeting of the Canaries in Strasbourg next Friday.
Mandanda-Omari, the blunder that could have been costly
Little worried about the whole game, Steve Mandanda was impeccable during his interventions. But the French goalkeeper made a relaunch error, shared with his defender Warmed Omari, during the Nantes equaliser. Guilty of a too risky recovery, the former Marseillais put in difficulty his partner surprised by the pressing of Mollet. Chirivella took advantage to equalise just before the break. In the end, this clumsiness had no consequence on the Rennes victory but be careful all the same. On the pitch of Villarreal on Thursday in the Europa League, this type of gift could have heavier consequences.
The lack of inspiration from Nantes
Authors of a solid collective performance, the Canaries can regret their second period very poor offensively. Apart from a huge equaliser for Sissoko, Pierre Aristuy's players failed to sufficiently endanger their rival. Very good in the first half, Mollet went out over the minutes before going out, as did Nigerian Simon. Nantes may have wanted to settle for 1-1, but the mission failed.
