Matthijs de Ligt has a tough time at FC Bayern. Two giants of the industry are said to be looking into a transfer of the defender.
Munich – Matthijs de Ligt has every reason to be frustrated at the moment. And that's not just because he lost his regular place at FC Bayern at the beginning of this season, but also recently got injured. The rumor mill has been bubbling for some time because of his recently sinking star. Two football heavyweights are now said to be putting out feelers for the defender.

FC Bayern: Manchester United and Barça hot on Matthijs de Ligt
The transfer portal todofichajes.com names Manchester United and FC Barcelona as the clubs that are specifically looking into signing de Ligt. It has been known for some time that the English record champions would like to strengthen their central defence.
That should have happened in the last summer transfer window, but United simply couldn't find a buyer for Harry Maguire, who had been booted out. One factor in particular would speak in favour of de Ligt's move to Manchester United: his previous collaboration with Erik ten Hag.

Matthijs de Ligt was captain under United coach Erik ten Hag
The United coach had coached de Ligt for two seasons at Ajax. The two Dutch compatriots sensationally reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season. De Ligt captained all games in the Champions League and even scored a goal in the 2-3 defeat in the second leg of the semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur.
In Barcelona, there is basically no need in the defensive center at first - with the regulars Ronald Araújo and Jules Koundé, the Blaugrana are excellently staffed. The squad places behind him are occupied by Andreas Christensen and Inigo Martínez, who was signed only a few weeks ago.

Matthijs de Ligt has to line up at the back at FC Bayern
Why are there such transfer rumours about de Ligt at all? Because the 24-year-old hasn't had an easy time under Thomas Tuchel recently and the frustration has increased more and more. Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano have formed the centre-back pair under Tuchel since the start of the season – and quite successfully. De Ligt was also absent recently due to an injury.
However, it can almost be ruled out that Bayern want to sell de Ligt in January or next summer. The 42-time international continues to be an integral part. Tuchel recently caressed and tried to calm the waves: "He came into the pre-season injured. That's why it took a while. Now he's back in shape. He deserves to play 100 percent."
Matthijs de Ligt: Does his Bayern future depend on Jérôme Boateng?
That was before the 7-0 home game against Bochum, in which de Ligt had to be replaced early due to a blow and has been out ever since. In the meantime, Jérôme Boateng, another central defender, who is without a club, is in training with FC Bayern. The 35-year-old can look back on a dazzling FCB career. It is not yet clear whether he will be signed. (aoe)
