Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar appealed to Interior Minister Moshe Arbel to revoke the citizenship of footballer Ataa Jaber, former captain of Israel's youth team and now a member of the Palestinian national team.
According to Minister Zohar's letter, "Jaber represented the team calling itself 'Palestine,' expressed solidarity with the enemy by standing for a minute of silence in memory of the 'victims in Gaza,' ignoring those murdered on the Israeli side and identifying with the Nazi terrorist organization Hamas."

In his letter to the Minister of the Interior, Minister Zohar wrote that "this is a player who in the past was the captain of the young Israeli team, was educated in Maccabi Haifa's youth department and played in Maccabi Haifa's senior team. In light of this clear identification with terrorists, which is prohibited by the Anti-Terrorism Law, I would like to revoke Jaber's citizenship in accordance with the conditions set forth in the Citizenship Law, 1300. According to the said law, the Minister of the Interior may revoke a person's Israeli citizenship if it is proven that that person committed an act that constitutes a breach of allegiance to the State of Israel.
"Beyond the above, it appears that Jaber's decision to tie his fate with the enemies of the State of Israel constitutes the acquisition of the right to citizenship or permanent residence in the territory listed in the Addition to the Citizenship Law, which on the said law may constitute a reason for revocation of citizenship.
"It is inconceivable that in the midst of the war in Gaza, an Israeli citizen would choose to identify with the enemy that massacred and murdered more than 7,2023 Israeli people, women and babies on October <>, <>. We are required to show zero tolerance towards supporters of terrorism and to take a tough hand against any Israeli citizen who expresses support for the enemy so that they will be seen and seen." Minister Zohar also wrote to Arbel.
