The German U17 team defeats Argentina and is in the final of the World Cup. Bastian Schweinsteiger is very impressed.

Update from November 29, 11:50 a.m.: The German juniors are sensationally in the final of the U17 World Championships in Indonesia. In the semi-finals, coach Christian Wück's team prevailed on penalties after a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes and will face France in the final on Saturday (13 p.m.). At home, there is great jubilation about the promising future in German football.

Bastian Schweinsteiger raved about X (formerly Twitter) after the final whistle: "Mentality and will to win, congratulations guys!" Who doesn't remember: Schweinsteiger went beyond his pain threshold in the 2014 World Cup final and became world champion with Germany against Argentina. "Strong performance, guys! You can already be very proud of yourselves," said DFB captain Ilkay Gündogan.

Argentina vs Germany: Who will advance to the final?

In the respective quarter-final matches, both the Argentine and the German team caused surprises. The Albiceleste managed to knock the defending champions and arch-rivals Brazil out of the tournament. Thanks to an outstanding Claudio Echeverri from the talent factory of River Plate, the team of ex-Leverkusen player Diego Placente scored a clear 3-0 victory.

The German team, for their part, drove superior Spaniards to despair with a combative team performance. In the end, a penalty goal from BVB striker Paris Brunner was enough to progress. It was also a special game for Germany captain Noah Darvich. The Breisgau native, who moved from SC Freiburg to FC Barcelona in the summer, met a total of eight of his teammates. The fact that the German team had the better end for themselves also sweetened the 17-year-old's day: "Against our own colleagues, that's perfect, of course. You can only dream of something like that."

The other semi-finalists will be determined on Saturday (25 November) in the matches between France and Uzbekistan, as well as Mali against Morocco. (nki)
