As expected, the 2023 Champions Trophy will be played on January 3, 2024 at the Parc des Princes. This Friday, it will not have escaped the most assiduous Parisian fans that the page of the PSG website dedicated to the PSG ticket office had displayed, for a few hours, a space to register for an alert for the Trophée des Champions "at the Park", before disappearing.
This does not change the choice made by the League, whose board of directors undertook a validation vote on Thursday in favor of the Parisian venue, as reported by L'Equipe and RMC. Several candidates had submitted their applications to organize this match initially scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 5.
The Democratic Republic of Congo had proposed the city of Kinshasa and its Martyrs of Pentecost stadium with a capacity of 80,000 seats. But the thermal difference between a month of January in France and Kinshasa (25 degrees average) had cooled both clubs.
The Téfécé had applied to host the match at the 33,000-seat Toulouse Stadium. But PSG wanted to play in Paris. However, according to the organisational standards of the Trophée des Champions, as with any other "neutral ground" match, the stadium should be split 50/50 between the supporters of the two clubs.
