The operations were necessary due to a torn tendon: "It's the shoulder that I've fallen on from time to time during my career. After my career, I was always in pain and then in August the mishap happened. When I took my little son in my arms, the tendon tore," she said.

Unfortunately, surgery was not enough, because the first operation did not go well. "An examination recently showed that the tendon tore again, so I underwent surgery again ten days ago," she told Sportnews.bz.

Manuela Mölgg has to take a break after surgery on her shoulder

Skiing continues to be Mölgg's great hobby after the end of her career in 2018, but this winter she will have to leave the boards a little longer. Because now the 40-year-old has to take a break for the time being, she is hardly allowed to put any weight on her shoulder for at least a month. "It's a bit strange, because I've never had any serious injuries during my career. I had to take a break here and there because of back problems, but otherwise I got through it well. And now this is happening," she said.

Mölgg is in a relationship with former ski racer Werner Heel, and their son Ben was born in 2021. It keeps the 40-year-old on her toes, and she doesn't miss professional skiing. "The only thing I really missed was professional skiing in the year after my retirement, especially travelling. Today, I enjoy life at home with the little one, my family and the hotel," she said. She runs the hotel together with her brother, the former ski racer Manfred Mölgg, in San Vigilio in South Tyrol. By the way, there is good news from German ski world champion Alexander Schmid: He is back in the snow after a serious injury. (msb)
