FC Bayern will probably not complete their winter training camp without sun after all. Thomas Tuchel, however, announces an unusual date.

Munich – Actually, FC Bayern had only planned a "training camp at home" for the winter.

Jan-Christian Dreesen revealed this a few weeks ago in an interview with the Münchner Merkur and tz. Now, however, there is apparently a "sun plan" after all. Coach Thomas Tuchel announced on Friday at the press conference before the Union game that the Munich team may make a detour to the south.

FC Bayern: Winter training camp "at home" and New Year's Day with the families

However, at an unusual time! Bayern's timetable for the start of 2024: Training for the FCB stars in the new year starts on the afternoon of 2 January, "so that the players can spend New Year's time with their families," Tuchel explained.

They will then prepare for the end of the first half of the season against TSG Hoffenheim on 12 January (20:30 CEST) at Säbener Straße. During this time, a friendly match at FC Basel will also take place. The match will be played on 6 January at St. Jakob-Park.

FC Bayern's winter training camp: First Hoffenheim game – then "short trip to the sun"

"Maybe we'll use the time after the Hoffenheim game for a short training camp to get a bit out in the sun and fill up on vitamin D. We'll see if that still makes sense," Tuchel revealed somewhat surprisingly in the press parlour on Säbener Straße.

The reason: "A training camp like this does something to you because you can usually spend more time together in the climatic conditions in which you do it. You stay on the pitch longer, train more in small groups and can work more tactically because the players can stay on the pitch longer without the risk of them cooling down."

FC Bayern's winter training camp: Can't go to Qatar

Since Bayern will not continue with the second half of the season until the following Sunday in Bremen (2024 January) after the first competitive game of 12 in Hoffenheim (21 January), Tuchel wants to use the time again if possible. However, not for a whole week, but only "a few days", according to the Bayern coach.

In recent years, FC Bayern have always travelled to Qatar for their winter training camp. Since the contract with Qatar Airways expired in the summer, there has been a lot of speculation about possible new locations. However, it has not yet been officially decided where the "short trip to the sun" will go. (smk)
