It's not Manuel Neuer who wants to be in Germany. Especially to the letter. Daniel Heuer, the goalkeeper of Hamburg, in the German D2, learned this the hard way on Friday night. Away to another former Bundesliga side, St Pauli, the Portuguese goalkeeper made a monumental blunder, which is sure to make the rounds of bloopers.
It all started with a totally innocuous six-metre shot. The Hamburg defence decided to play a three-man combination to get the ball back on the ball quickly. Daniel Heuer Fernandes (his real name) shifted Ambrosius, his left wing-back, who played in Ramos, his fellow defender, who put the ball back in one touch to his goalkeeper. But the Portuguese defender misses his pass to his compatriot in goal.
"Maybe it's a bit of fun"
There was no need to panic either, but Heuer Fernandes rushed in, and sent a big clearance into the ball. And that's where the drama begins. A right-footed shot taken on a half-volley that was a little unscrewed, which ended up under his own crossbar under the astonished eyes of his teammates, and the shouts of joy of the St Pauli players.
"O rety! O boże! Co za kompromitacja HSV"
Ten samobój przejdzie do historii niemieckiej piłki. Tylko na to popatrzcie 😱

A goal that allowed St Pauli to break the deadlock before the half-hour mark in this Hamburg derby, an ultra-important one between the top two in the league. Fortunately, HSV rallied in the second half to snatch a point from the draw away from home and stay within three points of the leaders. Enough to reassure his starting goalkeeper a little. "Maybe it's a bit of fun for a few people," he admitted to Sky Sports at the end of the game, but not exactly with a smile. Maybe he'll find it again when he re-watches the action...
