Highlights: Pierre Bourgarit scored the second try of the match on Saturday against Perpignan. The Stade Rochelais hooker used all his malice to surprise the opposing defense. It was a decisive move as it allowed his teammates to take the lead in a match that was not yet fully under control, and which made his coach Ronan O'Gara smile. La Rochelle, who have struggled since the start of the season, will therefore approach the return of the Heineken Champions Cup with a clearer mind next week.

The Stade Rochelais hooker scored the second try of the match on Saturday against Perpignan by flying over a ruck for the top of the pitch

Pierre Bourgarit will remember this one. The Stade Rochelais hooker scored a splendid try on Saturday during the 9th day of the Top 14 against Perpignan. During his team's victory against USAP at the Stade Marcel-Deflandre (35-6), the French international, a substitute at the 2023 World Cup, used all his malice to surprise the opposing defense.

While the La Rochelle forwards were stumbling close to the in-goal, Pierre Bourgarit, the last participant in the ruck, surprised everyone by picking up the ball, not to string together pick and go's, but to jump over the ruck and flatten it in the in-goal. All with their eyes turned towards the referee to make sure he has the right to do so. It was a decisive move for the Stade Rochelais as it allowed his teammates to take the lead in a match that was not yet fully under control, and which made his coach Ronan O'Gara smile.

The former Ireland international could be satisfied with his coaching paying off with six changes at half-time after a failed first half (7-6) including the introduction of Bourgarit and a brand new Kerr-Barlow-Hastoy hinge. Another newcomer, prop Reda Wardi, scored strongly.

Stade Rochelais, who have struggled since the start of the season, will therefore approach the return of the Heineken Champions Cup, of which they are the two-time defending champions, with a clearer mind next week. They will have to raise the bar this Saturday at 16:15 p.m. against Irish side Leinster for a rematch of the last two continental finals won by the Maritimes.
