BVB lost (2-3) at home, after playing a large part of the game with a man advantage. And this debauchery of energy

Borussia Dortmund didn't fill up with confidence ahead of hosting PSG in the Champions League, to put it mildly. Quickly reduced to ten men, BVB stumbled at home to RB Leipzig (2-3) on Saturday night, conceding their second defeat in a row after the German Cup elimination in Stuttgart on Wednesday.

The Borussia defence, without Mats Hummels for an illegal tackle in the position of the last defender (15′), took the water from deep. Leipzig's attacking players took advantage of these many spaces, with goals from Christoph Baumgartner (54′, 1-2) and Yussuf Poulsen (1-3, 90′ + 1), but could have added to the score on the counter. They had earlier opened the scoring from a corner, after an own goal from Rami Bensebaini (32', 0-1).

Dortmund lost a lot of energy

BVB were heavily outplayed for part of the match, but doubled their lead in stoppage time in both periods, through Niklas Süle (45′ + 6, 1-1) and Niclas Füllkrug (90′ + 3, 2-3). Dortmund could even have equalised, with several big chances for Süle (90' + 4) or Giovanni Reyna (90' + 5), but to no avail.

Borussia have given themselves the means to believe, but in the end, this great debauchery of energy on the penalty kill could be paid for in the match against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night. Unlike PSG, who enjoyed a full week without a game before hosting Nantes, Dortmund played on Wednesday in the Cup and faced Leipzig this weekend, a direct competitor for the top of the table. And from an accounting point of view, things are bad for BVB, who are now 5th, five points behind their opponents of the evening, fourth in the Bundesliga.
