Paris FC (Ligue 2) snatched its qualification for the 32nd final of the Coupe de France in the final minutes (3-1) against the team

"If you're proud to be from Reunion, clap your hands... The many Saint-Denis FC supporters are singing and taking selfies with the players. A few minutes earlier, the Paris FC players had reserved a well-deserved guard of honour for them. The 10th in Ligue 2, who had opened the scoring through Yoan Koré (68th), quickly conceded the equalizer on a goal from Bacary Said Toufely (72nd), before snatching qualification (3-1) against the 4th in the Regional 1 championship of Reunion Island, thanks to a double from Lamine Diaby Fadiga (88th, 90th + 4) at the very end of the match.

In the Coupe de France, the free operation at the Charléty stadium is not set up. But of the 2,081 spectators registered, almost half were from Reunion. On the forecourt of the stadium, it was a Reunion atmosphere, with food-trucks serving sausage rougail and chicken curry.

"It's like being at home, it's heartwarming to be here despite the bad weather," smiles Manu, Reunion Island flag on his back, who came with his family from Loiret. Like him, the Reunion fans believed in the feat. If Fred Bachelier, the coach of Saint-Denis, had chosen to play with a (very) low block, each time the ball came up, you could hear whispers in the stands.

When the equalizer was scored, the atmosphere went up a notch. It's a shame that there were some scuffles at the end of the game in the stands. But the Saint-Denis FC fans didn't want to deny their pleasure.

"I'm from Trois-Bassins, but we came to support Saint-Denis, our capital," smiles Wilfried, who lives in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois (91). You don't feel the cold and the rain. We can be proud of our players. They fought and fought to the end. Of course we believed in it after the equaliser. But Paris FC are professionals. It came down to experience. Our team is not used to playing in these conditions, on a big pitch. If it had been in Saint-Denis, the result would have been different, that's for sure. »

"We felt the atmosphere of Reunion Island"

In front of the many media in Reunion Island, coach Fred Bachelier wanted to pay "tribute to his players".

"They suffered a lot but they held on until the 88th minute. The goal was not to be trailing by a wide margin at half-time. We've achieved it. After we equalised, we thought we might have gone to penalties. I feel a lot of pride tonight. I was at the stadium on Tuesday for the Paris FC - Rodez match. Paris is one of the most formed teams in L2 at the moment, we play 4 divisions below. But they were made to doubt themselves. »

The Reunionese coach appreciated the atmosphere: "It was a pleasure to play here in Paris in front of our entire community who have lived in France for a long time. We felt this Reunionese atmosphere. It warmed our hearts. I think we made our fans happy, that's the most important thing. »

Housed in Lisses (Essonne) since the beginning of the week, Saint-Denis FC will leave with the proceeds of the match and the refreshments. A gesture from the leaders of Paris FC that was obviously appreciated.

Paris FC may have lost Sofiane Alakouch

As for Paris FC, who qualified for the 3rd year in a row for a round of 32, we didn't have the heart to smile too much. It was Stéphane Gilli, marked and moved, who presented himself at the press conference. Sofiane Alakouch, who was taken off on a stretcher in the 86th minute and in tears after hearing his knee crack. The right-back on loan from Metz, who has performed very well since his arrival at PFC, will undergo examinations. But he could suffer a cruciate ligament rupture, which would mean the end of his season.

"It hurts a lot to see one of his players cry like that," sighs Stéphane Gilli. I am very touched. On a human level, I'm really disappointed for Sofiane. He agreed to play games injured, he was very involved and now we risk losing him. It's terrible for him because he had a good start with us. This qualification in pain therefore inevitably has a very bitter taste. In the match, we just missed out in the final move. Saint-Denis played their game, speculating on counter-attacks and long balls and came close to achieving the feat. Obviously, we were 1-1 down, we weren't very serene. »
