Black day for Spanish football. The match between Athletic Bilbao and Granada CF, which took place on Sunday in the 16th round of La Liga, the Iberian first division football championship, could not be completed after the death of a fan in the stands of the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium, following a cardiac arrest.
The match was interrupted in the 18th minute, when Bilbao led 1-0 thanks to a goal from Inaki Williams. It was Athletic's goalkeeper, Unai Simon, who was standing just in front of the fainting supporter, who alerted the officials and heavily urged the assistant referee for long minutes that the match be stopped, so that he could receive first aid. The match was stopped for more than an hour before being definitively suspended, as it was learned that the fan in question had died.
Desde la Entidad queremos enviar nuestras más sinceras condolencias a los familiares y allegados, así como a toda la familia granadinista.
El partido entre el Granada CF y el Athletic Club, suspendido tras el fallecimiento de un abonado de nuestro Club.

La Liga has not yet released further details, simply issuing a short statement: "We offer our condolences to his family and friends, as well as to all Granada CF supporters. The date and time of the resumption of the match will be announced shortly."
"On behalf of the club, we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends, as well as to the entire Granada family," the Andalusian club said in a statement.
At the beginning of January this year, already in Spain, the match between Valencia and Cadiz was already mourning a very similar death, following a cardiac arrest in the stands.
