It was supposed to be just another game in the Spanish soccer league, where Sean Wiseman's team, Granada, hosted Athletic Bilbao, who took an early and unsurprising lead. Soon after, however, the whole story changed. The football was set aside due to a serious incident in one of the stands of the stadium.
It happened in the 18th minute, as mentioned above, in a 0-1 situation for the visitors, when their goalkeeper Unai Simon signaled to the match referee about some distress taking place in the stands of the local team's fans. Medical personnel were called to the scene and the game was suspended for an hour, at the end of which it was reported that one of the Granada fans had suffered a heart attack and died.
After a brief consultation, it was decided not to resume the game, which would be postponed to a date yet to be determined, and both teams agreed that in due course it would be resumed from the minute it was stopped (18) and in a 0-1 situation to Bilbao.
