The 1-1 draw against Sandhausen revealed the deep rifts between the Lions fans.

The Sitzberger case divides the supporters of TSV 1860 Munich.

Munich – Five points from three games – Argirios Giannikis’ starting record at TSV 1860 is impressive.

Against Sandhausen, at the end of the English week, it looked for a long time on Sunday as if the mini-series would come to an end, but as in Lübeck, the new coach provided new momentum with his substitutions.

Leroy Kwadwo equalized the lead of the second division relegated team with a header, who had looked like the sure winner until the 60th minute.

“Based on the second half, the point is okay,” said 1-1 scorer Kwadwo: “We stepped on the gas and really wanted to turn the game around.” Giannikis, who, unlike his predecessor Maurizio Jacobacci, had a lucky hand in in-game Coaching explained: “The changes gave us a lot of opportunities.

Overall, the 1:1 score was fair.”

Grünwalder Stadium against Sandhausen was not sold out for the first time in the 23/24 season

Sporting frustration or political annoyance?

For the first time this season, the Grünwalder Stadium was not sold out on match day.

The result in Halle (1:4 against Waldhof) had made the situation in the relegation battle worse in 1860 - and there was also the undignified mudslinging over Vice President Hans Sitzberger, who had been fired by the board of directors.

Because Sandhausen only brought a few fans with them, a lot of tickets for the Ostkurve became available, which the main sponsor “Die Bayerische” bought at short notice and distributed for free.

Ex-Lion Michael Köllner also got a ticket - for the VIP grandstand, where, like Sitzberger, he sat at a great distance from President Robert Reisinger.

Köllner had won an important three with Ingolstadt the day before - in ten days he will be visiting Giesing with the FCI.

Yesterday he saw both 1860 faces: first the tired one from Lübeck (1:1) - and in the last half hour the rousing one from the Duisburg game (4:1).

Sandhausen coach Keller struggles with a missed penalty

Two of whom Köllner still knows very well didn't look good when Sandhausen took the lead after the Lions' courageous start.

Fabian Greilinger, called up for the first time under Giannikis, was standing far away when Luca-Milan Zander curled a cross into the middle.

Jesper Verlaat let Richard Meier escape behind him.

After 20 minutes it was 0-1 for the guests, which was fine.

In the worst case scenario for 1860, it could have been 0-2 at the break: Eroll Zejnullahu, also called up for the first time under Giannikis, brought Weik off his feet (45th).

“For me it was a clear penalty,” said SVS coach Jens Keller, a 1990s Lions hero.

Good luck for the 2024 generation on the pitch.

Fans of TSV 1860 are divided by the Hans Sitzberger case

While the 1860 professionals only woke up afterwards, you could see early on in the stands how the Sitzberger affair was dividing the fan base.

A poster in the west curve read: “Lion.

Patron.

Vice President.

Who suddenly commits to HAM.

Anyone who builds bridges towards enemies has ruined their own monument.” By enemies, mind you, we meant the investor representatives around Hasan Ismaik.

There was a counter-rally in the main stand.

“Board of Directors out,” a fan had painted on a cardboard sign – and on the back: “Thank you, Hans Sitzberger.” The counted deputy thanked him politely at the break, whereupon a small group formed and chanted: “Reisinger out!”

Only after the triple substitution in the 61st minute, which was followed by an offside goal from Morris Schröter - and after a Guttau corner by Kwadwos (67th), did 1860 look like a team that was doing everything it could to avoid relegation counted.

Final comment from the lion rescuer: “We scored in every game in 2024, always scored – it can continue like this.” (ULI KELLNER)
