The game for third place and the final of the European Championship took place in Cologne on Sunday.

The French won the European Championship final against the reigning world champions on Sunday in Cologne 33:31 after extra time.

France is European handball champion 2024 – final thriller against Denmark
France's goalkeeper Samir Bellahcene played a major role in winning the title, making numerous saves.
For handball superstar Nikola Karabatić it is also a successful farewell to the European Championship stage.
The 39-year-old will end his long career after the Olympics in the summer.
Sweden previously secured the bronze medal in the game for third place against hosts Germany and the direct ticket to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The 2025 Handball World Cup will take place in Denmark, Croatia and Norway.

.: The first decision at the 2024 European Handball Championship was made on the final day.
Host Germany loses the game for third place against Sweden 31:34 and thus misses out on the bronze medal and direct Olympic qualification.
France and Denmark will contest the final at 5:45 p.m.

The young DHB team didn't manage to make a big splash in their own country.
But just getting into the semi-finals can be considered a success.
On Friday evening (January 26th) it becomes obvious that the reigning world champion Denmark is one size too big.
Germany lost 26:29 and missed out on a place in the final.
At the end of the tournament, national coach Alfred Gislason's team is still in action again.
In the game for third place, the German national handball team meets the dethroned European champion Sweden, who had to admit defeat to France in the semi-finals after a real handball thriller.
There is still a lot at stake for the German handball players.
