Mikaela Shiffrin's teammate Isabella Wright also crashed in Cortina.

But she is fine.

She caused a surprise with a TV appearance.

Cortina d'Ampezzo – An accident caused great concern at the start of the Alpine Ski World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Superstar Mikaela Shiffrin fell badly on the first descent.

The American is now on the mend, but the mischief surrounding the races in Italy is not going away.

On the second descent, Isabella Wright, one of Shiffrin's compatriots, was caught - and in the same place.

Wright will start the race on Saturday in third place and wanted to make an exclamation mark at the beginning.

But after a long delta jump and around 45 seconds of riding, she was unable to stay on her skis in a tight left-hand bend.

She ran into the safety net at high speed and fell.

She then remained motionless on the slope and the track became quiet.

Medical staff rushed over immediately and treated the American for several minutes.

The race was interrupted and the 26-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital by helicopter.

After around 15 minutes the descent could be resumed.

Just an hour after her fall: ski star Wright is back on the slopes

But afterwards Wright caused a few surprised faces.

Only about an hour after the start of the descent, she suddenly stood in the finish area and commented on her health condition on the TV channel Eurosport.

“I'm really happy that I'm standing here.

“I wanted to make sure I stood here again and supported my teammates,” said Wright, who appeared cheerful.

“I am grateful that I am standing on my feet.

“It was unfortunate circumstances for me today,” the 26-year-old continued.

She had “a wound on her chin” that needed stitches, reported Wright, who wore a large band-aid on her chin but otherwise looked barely damaged.

The US ski team had also given the all-clear shortly before: “It takes a lot more to bring this girl to her knees,” he wrote on social media about a photo of Wright in the finish area.

Immediately after her accident, the American ski racer was unable to answer the question of when she would return to the World Cup.

“We’ll see how my head feels.

But overall I’ve been pretty lucky,” she told Eurosport.

Wright announced that she would “analyze her fall step by step.”

The speed specialist later thanked the medical staff on site in Cortina and those of the US team on Instagram.

She also expressed her affection to her fans in view of their numerous wishes for improvement and support.

It wasn't the Swiss woman's first accident in Cortina: Suter had already had a serious fall at the World Cup last year.
