On Friday evening, record referee Dr.

Felix Brych visits Waldperlach.

He provided insights into the everyday life of a referee.

Waldperlach/Munich - The motto on Friday evening in the SV Waldperlach sports center was: “Love the sport.

Lead the game.” Guests included, among others, the Munich-born Dr.

Felix Brych.

With 344, he holds the record for the most games in charge in the Bundesliga.

The 48-year-old is currently suffering from a torn cruciate ligament, which he suffered in the Eintracht Frankfurt game against VfB Stuttgart in the first half of the season.

After that he wants to attack again in the professional field and get the sole record, as he previously shares the record with Wolfgang Stark.

Brych attaches great importance to respect between the players and the referees.

“There is not only the striker or defender, but also the referee.

Everyone is required to live the values not only during the 90 minutes, but also beyond.”

“We deserve respect even when things don’t work.”

Felix Brych on wrong decisions.

Brych also wants to be a role model off the pitch.

The Munich native, who whistles for SV Am Hart, particularly relies on good manners.

He also describes the referee as an “ambassador of football”.

Making wrong decisions is also part of the game for the seven-time DFB referee of the year: “We deserve respect even when things don’t work.”

For Brych, the most important thing for a successful career as an internationally recognized referee is extensive game preparation.

The two-time world referee meticulously prepares for every type of player before the game.

He can access a database in which every foul and every warning of every player can be accessed in the video.

Brych also takes a player's origin or old clubs into account in the evaluation.

Sent off against Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League: Brych is attacked by millions of fans

The highlight of the referee was the management of the Champions League final in 2017. A number of world stars were on the pitch during the encounter between Juventus Turin and Real Madrid.

And between Buffon, Ronaldo, Ramos and Co., it was Felix Brych who made the decisions back then without the support of the video referee.

“Sergio Ramos was always a player to keep an eye on,” says Brych with a smile, describing the then Real Madrid central defender, who was known for his toughness in tackles.

He hardly made any wrong decisions in this game and the relief afterwards was great: “I still remember how we celebrated all night long.”

In September 2018, it was another world star that Brych had to take a close look at.

Away from the action, Valencia defender Jeison Murillo was lying on the ground.

After consulting with his assistant, Brych decided that the five-time world footballer would be assaulted.

“I had 600 million enemies in one fell swoop,” remembers Brych, referring to the Portuguese’s charisma.

As a result, his Instagram profile exploded and he was unable to use his cell phone for hours.

“I never really had fun on the pitch.”

It wasn't just because of situations like these that Brych, who has a law degree behind him, had little fun on the pitch, contrary to the expectations of many spectators: "I never really had fun on the pitch." The tension was far too great when he is on the square.

And yet he still wants to return to the professional field as a referee.

After eight weeks he is “doing very well given the circumstances”.

After the “six to seven months” injury break, he wants to get back to the Bundesliga in the coming season.
