VAR with error on penalty – appeal successful
The exciting thing in the game was a penalty in the 23rd minute of the game.
The dispute was not about the creation of this, but about the execution.
More specifically, Genk's Yira Sor's follow-up shot after Bryan Heynen had previously missed the penalty.
Sor took the supposed lead with the follow-up shot, but this was not granted.
According to the prosecution, Sor entered the penalty area too early.
This is also true, but what is also part of the story is that two RSC Anderlecht players were also in the penalty area too early.
Accordingly, the penalty should have been retaken, which was not the case.
KRC Genk raised an objection against the scoring of the game, which was upheld.

A precedent in Europe?
First replay due to VAR error
It is unique in Belgium for a game to be replayed due to a VAR error.
In doing so, the Belgian league could have set a precedent for European football.
A similar scene occurred in October in the duel between Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
A goal from Liverpool's Luis Diaz was wrongly disallowed due to an offside position, but there was no VAR intervention.
The Reds lodged an objection, but were rejected by the Premier League.
