Manuel Neuer is closely linked to FC Bayern.

The goalkeeper and captain still has to listen to insults from the fans.

Munich – “Koan Neuer”: That was once, but after more than twelve years at FC Bayern, Manuel Neuer is still insulted by parts of his own fans.

The former goalkeeper of FC Schalke 04 spoke about the relationship with the supporters when visiting the “Bayernfreunde Tegernseer Tal” fan club in his new home.

Manuel Neuer annoyed by insults from the Bayern fan block

“There are still some groups or spectators standing in the south curve who sometimes shout something.

Away, just when we were in Basel (1-1 in the friendly in January; editor's note), there were some insults," said Neuer.

The dislike of some fans towards the 37-year-old from Gelsenkirchen goes back a long way.

The goalkeeper moved from his hometown club FC Schalke 04 to FC Bayern in the summer of 2011.

In response to Neuer's past in the Schalke curve, the FCB ultras protested in the south curve with posters that read "Koan Neuer", which should mean "No Neuer".

The organized support wanted to express its dissatisfaction with the obligation.

Bayern captain Neuer hopes for an improvement in his relationship with fans

“I hope the relationship has improved.

But what's important to me is how the entire fan community sees me.

That they know how I work for the club, what I always try to do for Bayern and what added value I give the team,” Neuer told the “Bayernfreunde Tegernseer Tal” fan club.

Neuer has now been promoted to captain at FC Bayern and has won the hearts of many FCB fans with his performance on and off the pitch.

In over twelve years in Munich, the world champion celebrated 29 titles, including eleven German championships and the Champions League twice.

As a thank you, FC Bayern has extended the contract with the goalkeeper duo Neuer and Ulreich until 2025.

“It is also crucial for me what feedback I get from the club and the team and what support I get – and I also get that from the masses of fans.

I am also very grateful for that.

“It has developed very positively since 2011. I am very proud to be part of the Bayern family,” said Neuer, who has made his home at Tegernsee just outside Munich.

The fact that this happened also has to do with Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß.

“I actually didn't want to live here mainly, but rather in Munich so that the distances were shorter.

But then I spoke to Uli Hoeneß!

He always did it that way.

And Philipp Lahm is also based here.

We talked about it and I decided to move here in 2016,” Neuer revealed.

It remains to be seen how long Neuer will continue to play for FC Bayern and whether he will extend his contract, which runs until 2025.

The long-time Schalke player may have the pleasure of working with a former Dortmund coach at the end of his career.

After his announced retirement as Liverpool coach, Jürgen Klopp is being traded as Bayern coach and he is “definitely a candidate” for Neuer.
