The World Windsurfing Championship, on the IQFoil model, was supposed to start yesterday (Monday) in Spain, but to the disappointment of the competitors, the first day of sailing ended up with no activity due to a very weak wind at the competition site.

The one who captures most of the interest is the reigning world champion, Shahar Tibi, who will try to win for the second time in a row and defend the title.
No less important than that, it will also be to achieve the Israeli criterion for the Olympic Games in Paris, in the great struggle against the rest of her team members, who are also at the top of the industry.
"We are here at the World Championship and I am very excited to start," said Tibi before the first sailings.
"It's going to be a long week of sailing, and the preparations for the event were very important, because it's the most important competition of the year for everyone, except for the Olympics of course.
"The World Championships are always something special. I worked very hard. I was in Spain for several weeks to train, and I put everything together to participate in the World Championships as best as possible. Although we have already completed the Israeli criteria for the Olympics, and we already have the ticket to Paris, but from here the Israeli representative will be chosen."
What is the current situation?
"I'm at the top and in a good position to achieve the criterion, but I haven't won it yet and I hope to do it. My main competitors are Sharon Kantor and Katie Spichkov, it will be a tough competition, with the best one winning and going to the Olympics."

Even though today (Tuesday) a weak wind is expected at the competition site, it should increase during the day and allow the opening of the championship with the first sailings on the way to Paris.
