After Franz Beckenbauer's death, Uli Hoeneß, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Paul Breiter speak emotionally about the importance of their friend for FC Bayern.

Munich – Almost four weeks ago, on January 7th, Franz Beckenbauer died, and on January 19th the world said goodbye to the football legend at the memorial service in the Allianz Arena.

Among the well-known guests were of course Beckenbauer's old friends Uli Hoeneß, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Paul Breiter.

The FC Bayern Munich legends shared emotional thoughts in the club magazine “51”.

Hoeneß, Breitner and Rummenigge send goosebumps to Beckenbauer

Hoeneß, Breitner and Rummenigge, who remembered Beckenbauer in the interview, miss their friend.

They find it comforting that he found support in his faith.

“He told us that he believed the soul migrates after death.

He didn’t know where he would go – but I like the idea that he’s still with us,” remarked Rummenigge.

Hoeneß said: “Franz was a relatively religious person and lived by faith.

We haven't talked about this topic often, so everyone has to figure that out for themselves.

It's a difficult idea that he won't be there anymore.

For me, he lives on in my memory, that's the case for all three of us and many other people too.

That’s how he stays.”

Beckenbauer was the first to embody “Mia san Mia”.

From FC Bayern's perspective, Franz Beckenbauer will probably always stay.

Because, as his friends say, he laid the foundation for the club's self-image.

“Franz always wanted to win, he had to win.

His always wanting to win is now the center of 'Mia san mia'.

With Franz, the awareness came to this club that once you sign a contract you have to win every game from now on - because there is someone out there on the pitch who is living it out,” said Paul Breiter in the club magazine “51”.

“When it comes to Franz, everyone always justified everything with his talent, but this reduction doesn’t apply.

He was fast, strong in the air, strong in tackles – he worked on that every day,” said Hoeneß.

“And when we talk about the origins of our 'Mia san mia', we end up with him: Franz founded this self-image at FC Bayern, and not because it was constantly reflected on in any writings, but because he exemplified it through his style how he acted on and off the pitch and how he always gave his all as a role model - without saying much about it.”

Beckenbauer's qualities have distinguished FC Bayern "for over 50 years," Hoeneß continued.

"Franz was the first to embody 'Mia san mia', and that is also the obligation of all future generations of Bayern: always believe in yourself, be strong and at the same time down-to-earth, always want to win - and stay true to yourself." Hoeneß misses his friend very much , he also made this clear in his speech at the memorial service.
