Mikaela Shiffrin is already thinking about a comeback after her serious fall in Cortina.
In the overall World Cup there is a Swiss woman breathing down her neck.
Innsbruck – It wasn't even a week ago that Mikaela Shiffrin fell badly while descending in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
While there were initially fears that the ski queen would end the season, it now appears that a lightning comeback at the next World Cup is possible.
Shiffrin injury less serious than expected
On the sidelines of the giant slalom at Kronplatz (January 30th), US alpine director Patrick Riml said in an ORF interview: “Mikaela is doing relatively well, considering the circumstances.
Nothing major happened, no broken bones, no torn ligaments.”
According to the Ötztaler, Shiffrin only overstretched the inner ligament of his knee.
However, it is again the left knee, where the American suffered a bone bruise in November 2023.
“Everything has developed a bit negatively again,” said Riml, explaining the situation around Shiffrin. At the moment we have to look “from day to day”.

Gut-Behrami is catching up with Shiffrin in the overall World Cup
A comeback at the technology races in Soldeu on February 10th and 11th is within the realm of possibility.
The two speed races next weekend in Garmisch-Partenkirchen had to be canceled due to poor slope conditions.
If Shiffrin were to celebrate her comeback in Andorra, she would have only missed three races since her crash.
In the fight for the overall World Cup, an early comeback would be extremely important for the American.
After Lara Gut-Behrami's victory, Shiffrin is only 95 points ahead of the Swiss.
For a victory in the World Cup you get 100 points.
There are still 15 races left this season.

However, Shiffrin will not force her lightning comeback with all her might.
“Often you take one step forward and two steps back,” Riml said.
“We have to be patient, let’s put it that way.” In the last few days she was also able to spend her rehab with her friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who is still confined to a wheelchair after his horror fall.
