Sacha Boey is FC Bayern's record winter transfer.

When it comes to his choice of jersey, however, he is following in the footsteps of an ex-FCB player who didn't exactly cover himself with fame.

Munich – The jersey number 23 is very popular in the sports world.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan became one of the greatest athletes of all time with the number.

In football, the number had prominent imitators, such as David Beckham during his time at Real Madrid.

New signing Boey will wear number 23 for Bayern in the future

FC Bayern also recently had a new number 23. New signing Sacha Boey, who moved from Galatasaray Istanbul to Isar for around 30 million, will wear exactly that number for the German record champions in the future.

A bad omen?

Blind most recently wore number 23 at FC Bayern

No matter how well-known the names with the jersey number 23 may be in the world of sports, the number hasn't had a good star at Bayern recently.

Daley Blind, now under contract with Spanish first division club FC Girona, was the last person to wear this number.

He was also a winter transfer from Munich - but his time at FCB was rather disappointing.

Blind moved from Ajax Amsterdam to Munich on a free transfer in January 2023 and was intended to give Bayern more depth in defense.

In the end, the 33-year-old only made five competitive appearances and only played a total of 157 minutes.

A manageable balance sheet.

Blind looks back positively on his time at Bayern

Despite his mixed experience at Bayern, the Dutchman looks back on this time without bitterness.

“I enjoyed my time in Munich not as a player, but as someone who loves football,” he wrote in a piece for

Boey follows in the footsteps of Hargreaves and Vidal at Bayern

Nevertheless: The ambitions of Bayern's new right-back Boey are likely to be significantly greater than 157 minutes of play.

At the introductory PK, the Frenchman made it clear how much he was looking forward to his debut with Bayern.

“It's a dream come true for me: it's an honor to be able to play for a global club like FC Bayern.

I’m really looking forward to my new team and to playing with all these great players in the future.”

And even if Bayern's last number 23 didn't have much success.

In the club's history of the record champions, there were also prominent names, Owen Hargreaves and Arturo Vidal, who shaped this shirt number.
