A great achievement for the fencer Yuval Freulich who today (Wednesday) advanced to the semi-finals of the Qatar Grand Prix, secured a medal and took a big step towards the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
The 29-year-old Freilich, a former European champion, met in the quarterfinals the Frenchman Yannick Borel, who is considered one of the best fencers in the world, who won the gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics and has five gold medals at the world championships.
From the start, the Frenchman's data did not pressure Freulich, as throughout almost the entire encounter he led and in the end, despite Burrell's attempts to pressure, the Israeli had the upper hand with 9:15.
In Freulich's competition, 232 athletes took part, and on the two days of the competition, he started in the group stage, where he achieved four wins against two losses, which automatically advanced him to the last 128 stage, where he won 12:15 over a Swiss opponent and in the next match over a Korean 9:15.

The road to the podium was in the last 16 stage where he also met a French opponent, Roman Cannon, but here too Freulich continued his great ability and achieved a victory of 10:15.
Following the achievement, Freilich earned important ranking points, which will bring him very close to his goal, to represent Israel in the fencing discipline at the Olympic Games in Paris, something that has not happened since Beijing 2008.
