Christian Werner lured four players to TSV 1860 at the end of the transfer window.

Coach Argirios Giannikis from his new arrivals.

Munich - Instead of CR7 there were AN14, MR16 and SG38 on Wednesday.

Followed by PM39 on Deadline Thursday.

In the end, Cristiano Ronaldo's move to the Lions didn't happen - despite the strange rumor that Transfermarkt.de recently raised, with a change probability of 51 percent.

The four players that the new 1860 jack-of-all-trades Christian Werner pulled out of the hat in place of the Portuguese world star are: Abdenego Nankishi (shirt number 14), Max Reinthaler (16) and Serhat-Semih Güler (38) - plus another offensive talent released at the last minute by 1. FC Nürnberg: Pedro Eliot Narciso Muteba (39).

Muteba's pace impresses Christian Werner - NLZ talent Bangerter signs professional contract

The new sports director seems to be particularly proud of latecomer Muteba (20), another winger with Angolan roots (like Nankishi).

“With Eliot, we are bringing the fastest player in all regional leagues to the Lions, who, like all the offensive newcomers of the winter, can reach a speed of over 34.5 km/h,” enthuses the squad renovator: “He has great potential and in the current season Regionalliga Bayern has already shown what he's made of (four goals in twelve games for Nürnberg II/Red.).

We are very pleased that he chose us despite various offers from other third division teams.”

Muteba is also no Ronaldo, but like the three newcomers before him, he is a player who underlines the new direction of the Lions, which should be more down-to-earth, more creative and more sustainable under the sporting direction of Werner/Gianniki.

It also fits that NLZ talent Moritz Bangerter (19, central midfield, number 32) signed his first professional contract.

“In addition to the primary goal of developing our own talents like Moritz Bangerter for the professional team, our aim is to find and develop young and talented players from the region,” says the text accompanying the personnel.

Christian Werner sets the first mark at TSV 1860 Munich with a squad overhaul

With his comprehensive squad overhaul, Werner has certainly made his first mark.

As with the search for a trainer, when in doubt he decided in favor of the profile - and against the well-known name.

In favor of solid development, he seems willing to forego the quick acclaim that would have been certain with men like Terrence Boyd or Marco Antwerp.

Of course, Werner also asked third division luminaries, such as the Verl whirlwind Mael Corboz (29), who ended up moving to Bielefeld, where he signed with better salaries until 2027.

Gorenzel's successor's player portfolio is nevertheless more extensive than many would have expected given his modest past in the professional business.

Lions fans can now watch from afar how the expensive alternative model is developing in Mannheim: with Boyd, with Antwerp.

Werner, ex-scout for SV Waldhof, prefers to rely on pragmatic solutions.

The Bremen wing arrow Nankishi (21) replaces the sedate Tarsis Bonga, who Werner transferred to Halle with his first official act.

Defensive veteran Max Reinthaler (28) brings with him the experience of three third division positions and enables homegrown player Niki Lang to continue his training with the SC Freiburg second team (until the summer).

“Each of the new guys brings in skills that we didn’t have in the squad before.”

Argirios Giannikis about the winter newcomers to TSV 1860.

Finally, Serhat-Semih Güler (26): The Cologne-born Turk, top scorer in the Regionalliga West in 2022/23 (23 goals for Wuppertal), is taking over for Joel Zwarts when he is ill.

Werner says about the Muteba transfer that it “represents an anticipation of the next transfer period in terms of planning”.

Giannikis also sounds satisfied.

“Each of the new guys brings in skills that we didn’t have in the squad before,” enthuses the coach.

We are now “prepared for every situation – in breadth and depth”.

Reinthaler, Güler and Muteba in particular are likely to play a role in the rebuilding in the summer - after all, the future of captain Jesper Verlaat is just as uncertain as that of Zwarts and Lakenmacher (the contracts of all three players are expiring).

Instant solutions with ulterior motives.

Just as you would expect from a man who has a doctorate in sports science and has been studying the complex TSV 1860 up close since the summer.
