AS Monaco legend Jean Petit will not see the centenary of the club, where he will have spent more than half a century, scheduled for next August.
The former French international died on Tuesday January 23 in the year he turned 75, leaving behind a club without one of its greatest icons.
Suddenly falling under the spell of ASM during a 5-0 victory one evening of April 14, 1963 on the pitch in Toulouse, his hometown, “Jeannot”, 13 years old, was taken down with a fever love affair that would last for almost six decades.
As a symbol, his funeral took place in Monaco Cathedral this Friday morning, among nearly 1000 people including Prince Albert, Didier Deschamps and Arsène Wenger.
