Two days after Yuval Freilich won the gold medal at the Qatar Grand Prix in fencing, the world association published the new ranking last night (Thursday), where the top Israeli in the sport jumped to 8th place in the world ranking and 6th in the Olympic one.
If Freilich manages to keep this position until April 1, he will win a ticket to the French capital, in what will be the first representation in the sport to the Olympics since Beijing 2008, when Delilah Hatuel, Noam Mills and Tomer Or participated.
The 29-year-old Freilich, who competes in the Dakar model, received 48 points for his achievement and jumped 12 places, occupying eighth place in the world with a total of 106 points, as he overtook strong opponents who had medaled at the world championships and continental competitions.
Until the goal is determined, Frielich has three more major competitions left.
At the end of the month, he is expected to take part in the World Cup in Germany, and next month he will participate in the Grand Prix in Hungary and Georgia, but in them he will arrive ranked and will not have to go through the group stage.
Even if he does not meet his goal through the Olympic ranking, he will get one last chance at the end of April, at the European qualifying competition to be held in Luxembourg.
