The matter does not end there.
This Friday, four days after the report made by the women's Asvel which denounced the behavior of the coach of the Romanian club Sfantu Gheorghe towards the French international Gabby Williams, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) confirmed the opening of a “disciplinary procedure”.
In a short press release, FIBA indicates that this procedure was opened before a single judge of FIBA Europe "in relation to an incident which took place during the Euroleague match between Lyon Asvel and ACS Sepsi-SIC, involving a player of the home team and the head coach of the visiting team.
On Wednesday, Asvel announced that it had made a report to the delegate of the match played against Sfantu Gheorghe the day before, concerning the behavior of the opposing coach, Zoran Mikes, towards Gabby Williams, 27 years old.
The club had indicated that the Federation had “taken up the matter” and the latter had specified that it was carrying out a “thorough investigation into this subject”.
“I told him not to touch me”
On her X account (formerly Twitter), the player recounted the scene.
“The opposing coach decided to slap my butt during the match,” she wrote.
I told him not to touch me and his assistants started shouting at me.”
She then continued: “I asked a referee if he (
the coach
) could touch me and he (
the referee
) told me yes (
because
) he was calm.”
Messages quickly deleted.
In its press release, FIBA announced that it would not make any further comments during the procedure.
Asvel, who were playing at home, beat Sfantu Gheorghe (94-77) on Tuesday in a no-holds-barred meeting of the 14th and final day of the Euroleague.
