Split

The biathlon entourage will soon be stopping in Nove Mesto, where this year's World Championships will be held.

Here you can find the schedule and everything you need to know.

Nove Mesto – The wait will soon be over for all winter sports enthusiasts, especially for the members of the application committee from Nove Mesto.

The Biathlon World Championships will be held this year in the small Czech town with around 10,000 inhabitants.

The competitions in the various disciplines are scheduled from February 7th to February 18th, 2024.

The organizers probably think that the contract has finally been awarded.

Because Nove Mesto had already applied in vain to host the Biathlon World Cup in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

Finally, without an opposing candidate, they were awarded the contract for the big biathlon gathering in 2024.

Biathlon World Cup 2024: The favorites among women

With gold in the sprint, Denise Herrmann-Wick secured the second title of her career at the World Championships in Oberhof last year.

A few weeks later she announced the end of her career and can no longer help the German team win in Nove Mesto.

There isn't necessarily a clear favorite this year, the rankings are quite close together, so there could definitely be a surprise.

Statements make you sit up and take notice

The results of the season so far suggest who could win the title at the 2024 Biathlon World Cup.

Justine Braisaz-Bouchet from France is certainly at the forefront with four wins so far.

Braisaz-Bouchet's compatriots Julia Simon and Lou Jeanmonnot are also unlikely to be in the chasing pack.

Norway's Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, Lisa Vittozzi from Italy, Sweden's Elvira Öberg and Lena Häcki-Groß from Switzerland have also made people sit up and take notice in recent months.

And who is Germany sending into the race?

Franziska Preuß, who always finished in the top ten in her eleven starts this winter, had to stay away from the World Cup in Antholz due to an infection.

Vanessa Voigt (10th place) and Janina Hettich-Walz (14), who were in the top 20 in the World Cup, could achieve good results.

Hanna Kebinger was recently left out of the World Cup squad.

The men at the Biathlon World Cup 2024: Who is the favorite for the title?

Norway, Norway, Norway – the biathletes from the Scandinavian country have long been the ultimate among men.

Impressive, but it really is the case that the first six places in the World Cup are all taken by Norwegians.

One protagonist in particular deserves to be singled out from the Norwegian crowd.

With five individual wins this season, Johannes Thingnes Bö is the dominant force.

At the World Championships in Oberhof last year, Bö won the gold medal in the sprint, pursuit and individual.

Team Norway also triumphed in the mixed relay and the single mixed relay.

But Germany can definitely stand up to this, in Antholz the DSV athletes recently won the single mixed relay.

Because the German biathletes aren't doing that badly, the Norwegian flag only outshines the beginning of the World Cup list.

Benedikt Doll (8th place), Johannes Kühn (9), Philipp Nawrath (11) and Justus Strelow (12) have four athletes in the top 20. In terms of medal chances, however, the focus is more on the team competitions.
