The ski district cup season has started.

The first race was attended by 285 young racers in great weather.

And the individual classes were extremely exciting.

Ehrwald

– When it comes to outdoor sports, the weather is always an issue.

In some disciplines, such as alpine skiing, the conditions even determine the fate of the entire event.

At the start of the season in the ski district cup, none of those involved could complain.

It was “imperial weather,” as one message put it.

The organizers (SC Murnau and SC Huglfing were jointly responsible) and the young ski racers used the good template to create a successful event.

Best weather at the start of the district cup season

This time, after a relocation in advance, the ski area was at the “Wettersteinbahnen” ski area in Ehrwald/Tyrol.

The starting field was “very large” with 285 children and young people, said Simon Halmburger, chairman of SC Murnau.

Compared to last year, when the SCM organized the opening race, the number of starters increased by a good 20.

This year there were two giant slalom variants.

The children (born up to 2012) ran on a shortened route, the students (born 2011 to 2008) and the young people (born 2006 to 2003) completed a longer run including a steep slope.

The participants “were asked to use all their skills,” says Halmburger.

At least 13 drivers failed to finish, and ten athletes were disqualified because they made mistakes at the gate.

Older age groups also skied on steep slopes

The best times of the day in the children's classes were achieved by Grace Randall (with 32.22 seconds) from TSV Oberammergau and Benedikt Knoll (30.33) from SC Murnau.

A duo from DAV Peißenberg drove the fastest on the longer route: Anna Heger (53.66) and Fabian Schwarz (50.83) achieved the top times.

Halmburger sees evidence of “widespread great youth work in the ski clubs” in the fact that a total of 16 clubs achieved podium places on the first race weekend of the season.

Winners came from ten different clubs and divisions.

For several years now, clubs from the border regions of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen districts have also been eligible to take part in the district cup, which was originally intended exclusively for Weilheim-Schongau.

The weather was perfect at the start of the ski district cup season.

The Murnau ski club (9) achieved the most top-three placements in Ehrwald, ahead of SC Lauterbach (8) and TSV Oberammergau (7).

TSV Weilheim, TSV Bernbeuren and DAV Peißenberg each achieved six podium places.

The people from Peißenberg took home the most victories: five DAV drivers were at the top of the podium in their respective classes.

Large starting field with 285 children at the district cup

Among the youngest, the girls and boys in the “Children I” category, BSC Oberhausen was ahead.

Anna Ramsayer (41.48) won the girls, Vitus Kindermann (36.29) was fastest among the boys.

It was extremely close for the Kinder II boys (born 2015): the difference between winner Jakob Greissl (SC Lauterbach) and second place, Pius Salzmann (SC Peiting), was just eleven hundredths of a second.

(Our Schongau newsletter regularly informs you about all important stories from your region.)

In the boys class “Kinder IV” (born 2013), the first four drivers were within 16 hundredths of a second.

Jakob Winkler (36.95) from DAV Peißenberg won ahead of Quirin Eger (+0.14) from SC Kochel, Emil Liebmann (+0.15) from TSV Weilheim and Carl Flemisch (+0.16) from TSV Oberammergau.

In the student classes, the fight for the day's victory in the “Student II” age group (born 2010) was particularly exciting: In the boys' category, Matteo Bühner from TSV Oberammergau prevailed over Tobias Schuster (SC Lauterbach) by eleven hundredths of a second.

For the girls, there was only a good half a second between Valentina Winkler (DAV Peißenberg) and Jorina Lüttgau (SC Schongau).

Meanwhile, things were very clear for the “Students IV (born 2010): Moritz Kneller (SC Murnau) had a lead of 5.27 seconds, Sarah Veit (SC Böbing) won with a gap of 4.45 seconds to second place, Katharina Pönitz (SC Hohenfurch).

SC Huglfing and SC Murnau took over the direction

As far as the youth classes are concerned, Jonas Krug (TSV Weilheim) has managed to get promoted to this age group very well.

After numerous successes in the past winters

with the students, he now won a day in the “Youth I”.

Krug won the race in Ehrwald well ahead of Dominik Drexler (SC Huglfing/2.42 seconds back) and Markus Eirenschmalz (SC Lauterbach/5.29 seconds back).

In the oldest group, the “Youth II”, the top places each stayed within a second.

Sina Eckert (TSV Bernbeuren) was the winner, 89 hundredths of a second behind Alina Blauensteiner (SC Hohenfurch).

Fabian Schwarz (DAV Peißenberg) was nine tenths ahead of Seppi Hollerbach (SC Hohenfurch).

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.)

At the award ceremony, as in the previous year, there were hand-made medals specially designed for the event.

There were also non-cash prizes provided by sponsors such as Autohaus Schwaller, Sport Conrad and Reisenthel.
