SpVgg Unterhaching beats SC Verl in the 3rd league.

Aaron Keller and Ben Westermeier, whom Marc Unterberger previously criticized, are convincing.

Unterhaching – In the end, everyone at SpVgg Unterhaching was in each other’s arms.

After 90 hard-fought minutes against SC Verl, the Vorstädter secured the next three points in the 3rd league.

Particularly noticeable are two Hachinger youngsters.

Ben Westermeier and Aaron Keller, who became the match winner thanks to his goal.

In the home win against Verl: Ben Westermeier leads SpVgg Unterhaching as captain

It was Keller who caused the first excitement of the game.

He fooled his opponent on the left side and was then laid off (6th).

“For me it was a penalty because I tunneled him and then he just ran into me,” Keller commented on the scene.

Referee Eisbach didn't point to the point, much to the annoyance of the 2,850 fans in the Unterhaching sports park.

A competitive game then developed with few highlights.

The mood remained good, also because the Hachingers defended passionately.

Ben Westermeier, who regularly received applause from the crowd, always provided highlights.

The 20-year-old led Hachinger as captain in the absence of Markus Schwabl (suspension) and Josef Welzmüller (knee).

“This is of course something very special in my hometown club, but I don’t think much of it,” said Westermeier.

“Seppi and Markus give me a lot of tips.

Of course it’s great for us boys.”

“That was really good”: Aaron Keller works magic and ends the goal drought

Simon Skarlatidis missed the best chance before the break.

Westermeier played the veteran, who shot over the goal from eight meters.

After the break, Keller did better: Skarlatidis played an exemplary long ball into the path of the 19-year-old attacker, who skillfully let his opponent get out and then coolly finished.

“That was really good,” said Keller, who had to wait for a goal since December 16th.

The Swiss regularly impressed in one-on-one situations: “Many people don’t know this, but I’m half Brazilian.

I would say that’s where the humor comes from.”

There was also praise from the coach.

“I was incredibly happy for Aaron Keller,” said Unterberger after the game.

The boy has so much potential.

He had so many chances in the past that he finally managed to score again.” Afterwards, the Hachingers limited themselves almost exclusively to defending.

Hardly any great chances in the final minutes: SpVgg Unterhaching beats SC Verl

Verl then tried to use force: Michel Stöcker and Nicolas Sessa missed the best chances to equalize from a distance.

Much to the relief of the Haching head coach: “We experienced it in Ulm when something like that sailed into the corner.

Luckily that didn't happen today.” In the end, the Hachingers survived East Westphalia's final offensive unscathed and celebrated a deserved 1-0 home win.

"Part of the development is also falling behind, especially as a young player."

Marc Unterberger, coach of SpVgg Unterhaching, about Ben Westermeier.

Particularly noticeable in the last few minutes was captain and driver Westermeier.

Unterberger repeatedly grabbed his protégé and gave instructions.

“Ben is a good example of how development can work relatively quickly,” explained Unterberger.

“I took him down at halftime in Cologne.

He really got his fat off there.”

Since Unterberger was in Frankfurt for the coaching course, the two spoke on the phone during the week and reflected on the situation.

“I know what's inside him and I didn't hesitate for a second today to bring him back from the start,” said Unterberger about handling the jewel.

“Part of the development is also falling behind, especially as a young player.

Ben is very mature and it showed.

I'm pleased that he showed a reaction." Now it's about proving yourself in the long term in order to leave a lasting mark in professional football.

The potential certainly seems to be there at Westermeier – as at Keller.
