At the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto, Sophia Schneider from SV Oberteisendorf is part of the sextet of the German women's team.
The 26-year-old hasn't had an easy time and had to deal with a broken rib in the run-up to the season.
Ridnaun - This happened shortly after the
German championship
in Ruhpolding in September.
“As a result, I had to stop training a bit; I couldn't train my upper body as much.
But I prevailed and am definitely happy now,” said the Vachendorfer from SV Oberteisendorf, who is pleased that the
World Cup nomination
worked out.
“I’m also happy that I’ve had some good results
so far this season
.
Of course I’m not completely consistent yet, but I’m quite happy with what happened in the summer.”
Biathlon: Relay start as a special goal
The German team is currently preparing, like last year in Ridnaun.
“There we do a
training block with longer units
.
This provides a basis for the upcoming tough races at the World Cup.
We use this to get into good mental shape so that you are ready for
Nove Mesto
,” says Schneider, who, in his own words, “does well in the South Tyrolean town.”
She herself doesn't have such high expectations for the races at the World Cup.
She is missing a podium place during the season.
“That’s why you can’t expect that now.
I want to get
as close to 100 percent as possible
.
Then I think something good can come out of it.
“I want to show good shooting and then we’ll see what’s possible,” said the 26-year-old, adding: “If I’m really fit, I can also keep up very well when it comes to running.”
Biathlon: Relay start as Schneider's special goal
A
special focus is on the relay
, where the German women's quartet has to defend second place from last year in Oberhof.
“I would like to start there and take fourth place in the relay.
I showed in Ruhpolding that I can do good relays.
“With zero mistakes and a good running time, I really
did a good race
and I hope that I have been recommended for the World Cup relay,” she hopes.
There was third place for Germany in Ruhpolding.
Franziska Preuß
,
Vanessa Voigt
and
Janina Hettich-Walz
are likely to be in Nove Mesto
.
Defending Oberhof's medal will be difficult, there are many favorites.
Norway, above all, Sweden, France and defending champion Italy.
“It remains to be seen whether we will be involved.
We
have a good team
and have good chances.
“It’s definitely a huge goal to go home with a medal,” said Schneider.
A year ago, everything in the team revolved around the “mom”,
Denise Herrmann-Wick
was the dominant woman in the team.
This year she is missing.
“It's a change because she's no longer there.
That's why we now have Franzi Preuß.
She is older and
has a lot of experience
.
Maybe she is a “little” mother replacement.
The role of Denise is difficult to replace.
Nevertheless, we still have fun in the new team constellation.”
After the World Cup, Sophia Schneider and her colleagues still have three World Cups on the agenda.
First the classic in
Oslo
, then we go to
Soldier Hollow in the USA
and to
Canmore in Canada
.
“These are two new places and I definitely want to be there,” she says.
