Ski jumping on Sunday: Wellinger makes amends

After

no German jumper was able to place in the top ten

on Saturday , Wellinger had to come off the beam twice before his final jump because of the wind.

But he kept his nerve and made up six places with a long jump.

Since the

constant rain

affected the inrun track at the Mühlenkopfschanze and the wind kept changing, the staging of the second round was even in jeopardy.

Ski jumping in Willingen: strength loses lead

Stephan Leyhe (11th)

,

Pius Paschke (25th)

and

Philipp Raimund (26th)

fell a few places back in the second round.

Like the day before,

Karl Geiger (31st)

and

Felix Hoffmann (36th) missed the final of the best 30 jumpers.

With his victory, Wellinger, currently second in the overall World Cup, gained important points on the Austrian leader

Stefan Kraft

, who only finished sixth.

The Slovenian Timi Zajc

showed the longest jump of the day

with

153 meters

.

Last year he fell

161.5 meters

after landing in the same place after a flight.

After the first round, the Pole

Aleksander Zniszczol

was surprisingly in the lead .

However, he fell back to seventh place after the second jump.

Conclusion

: Andreas Wellinger secured victory in Willingen with a strong second jump.

He remains the only German who can currently compete among the world's best.

2nd round

: Will Aleksander Zniszczol hold his nerve here?

No!

It is 130.5 meters for the Pole.

Andreas Wellinger wins here in Willingen.

2nd round

: At the Four Hills Tournament, Ryoyu Kobayashi had the lead in the duel with Andreas Wellinger, today it will be very close.

The Japanese jumps 146 meters.

Wellinger stays ahead.

2nd round

: He would still have to leave one knight behind him.

The first of the final three athletes is Lovro Kos.

The Slovenian wobbles after the jump and only manages 122 meters.

This puts Andreas Wellinger on the podium here.

2nd round

: Andreas Wellinger makes up place after place here.

Marius Lindvik also falls behind him.

He is only fourth with 142 meters.

2nd round

: And Gregor Deschwanden can't push Wellinger out of the lead here either.

He takes second place with 152 meters in significantly better conditions.

2nd round

: Stefan Kraft is now sitting on top.

Can he jump past Wellinger?

He can not.

The Austrian jumps six meters shorter.

That puts him in third place.

2nd round

: In the third attempt he is allowed to go down and he shows everyone that he has strong nerves.

He conjures 149 meters down here.

So he takes the lead for the time being.

2nd round

: And Andreas Wellinger didn't have anything in the second attempt either.

He has to go down again.

2nd round

: Can Andreas Wellinger jump further now?

First he has to get off the beam again.

The wind is too strong again.

2nd round

: Now the traffic light turns green for Stephan Leyhe.

He comes out very flat again, but doesn't get as far this time.

It is 132 meters.

He is fifth.

2nd round

: Now it applies to the DSV jumpers.

Stephan Leyhe and Andreas Wellinger are now coming directly behind each other.

Leyhe makes the start, but has to get off the beam again.

The wind doesn't cooperate.

2nd round

: Jan Hörl, on the other hand, cannot match his compatriot here.

He only reaches 135.5 meters and ends up in fifth place.

2nd round

: We have reached the last ten jumpers.

Daniel Tschofenig from Austria starts the top ten, flying far down to 151 meters.

He pushes Zajc from the top spot.

2nd round

: Timi Zajc sits on top of the beam.

The Slovenian had a good first jump, but his second jump goes much further.

He managed 153 meters, which is close to yesterday's hill record.

This puts him in the lead for sure.

2nd round

: Half of the jumpers are now down.

The 16th starter is Roman Koudelka from the Czech Republic.

He shows a really strong jump of 145 meters.

The 34-year-old takes the lead.

2nd round

: We have reached the next German starter.

Pius Paschke sits on top of the beam.

He has to wait a long time, but then he can still go down.

But it doesn't get any wind support at all.

It is only 119 meters.

Really bitter for Paschke.

He falls back to seventh place.

2nd round

: With Philipp Raimund we now see the first German in this final.

It reaches 129.5 meters, putting it in fifth place.

He gets 32 points deducted, but he doesn't seem to agree with that at all.

2nd round

: The rain is also getting heavier.

It remains to be hoped that this round can be completed.

Kamil Stoch can definitely go down now.

The Pole jumps to 125.5 meters and is fourth.

2nd round

: As far as the wind is concerned, it's really tough now.

There is a short break after every second jumper.

However, Dawid Kubacki doesn't allow himself to be distracted and jumps to the top with 132.5 meters.

2nd round

: On the second attempt he is allowed to go down, but only reaches 116.5 meters.

This puts him behind Oestvold.

2nd round

: The track holds, but the wind is currently not in the jumpable range.

That's why Naoki Nakamura has to get off the beam again.

2nd round

: There will be a second round, that is now certain.

Benjamin Oestvold from Norway opens this with a jump of 125.5 meters.

Before the 2nd round

: At the moment there are no further reports from the race management.

Accordingly, one can assume at the moment that the initial track is holding.

Benjamin Oestvold from Norway would be the first jumper to start in a few minutes.

Before the 2nd round

: Four German jumpers are still there in the final, should it take place.

Philipp Raimund will be the first to start with start number nine.

He is followed by Pius Paschke (12), Stephan Leyhe (23) and Andreas Wellinger (24).

Before the 2nd round

: The start of the final is scheduled for 5:32 p.m.

However, it is questionable whether this will actually happen due to the weather conditions and the increasingly poor inrun track.

Ski jumping on Sunday: The interim results after the first round

1. Aleksander Zniszczol (Poland)

131.5 pts.

2. Ryoyu Kobayashi (Japan)

-12.4

3. Lovro Kos (Slovenia)

-13.6

7. Andreas Wellinger (Germany)

-20.2

8. Stephan Leyhe (Germany)

-20.8

19. Pius Paschke (Germany)

-39.0

22. Philipp Raimund (Germany)

-43.2

31. Karl Geiger (Germany)

-49.7/eliminated

36. Felix Hoffmann (Germany)

-54.3/eliminated

Conclusion

: The DSV team managed at least one more jumper in the second round despite heavy rain and changeable winds.

Andreas Wellinger and Stephan Leyhe are still within striking distance if there really is a second round.

That is more than questionable under these conditions.

1st round

: Only Stefan Kraft is now on top.

He has to wait a very long time.

The wind makes it difficult for him.

When he is finally allowed to jump, he does well.

It is 141 meters for the overall World Cup leader.

He ranks sixth.

Aleksander Zniszczol wins the first round.

1st round

: Now it's Andreas Wellinger's turn.

He has similar conditions to Kobayashi and also comes down well.

It's 139 meters for him.

He is sixth.

1st round

: It is the turn of the Four Hills Tournament winner.

Ryoyu Kobayashi shows a good jump of 144.5 meters.

He moved ahead of Lovro Kos to second place.

1st round

: Jan Hörl is lucky with his conditions here and you can tell that straight away.

It is 143.5 meters for the Austrian.

However, due to the many negative points due to the good wind, he is only sixth.

1st round

: Can Pius Paschke do better?

He was the best German in qualifying.

After all, it reaches 136 meters.

He ranks 15th.

1st round

: Now two Germans come here one behind the other.

Karl Geiger is the first.

Even today he can't manage a good jump.

127.5 meters is not enough for the final at the moment.

He would still have to leave one jumper behind.

1st round

: The second round won't work for Manuel Fettner.

The Austrian only reaches 123 meters.

His compatriot Michael Hayböck does a little better.

He shows 130.5 meters and is currently in 15th place.

1st round

: Marius Lindvik is the winner of today's qualification.

He jumps to 142 meters and ranks third.

1st round

: Ten jumpers are still up.

The first athlete is Peter Prevc.

He stands at 131.5 meters and is currently 13th.

1st round

: Yesterday's winner sits on the beam.

However, after his hill record, he falls significantly behind today.

Only 130 meters and 13th place for the Norwegian.

1st round

: Now loud cheers erupt in the stadium again.

It's Stephan Leyhe's turn.

He jumps off flat, but manages 137 meters and is currently second.

1st round

: Timi Zajc wasn't in the final yesterday either.

Today he can definitely make a second jump.

He is currently third.

1st round

: It's Philipp Raimund's turn.

His jump of 130.5 meters was enough for eighth place and the second round.

He hadn't reached it yesterday.

1st round

: Yesterday Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal achieved his first podium place, but today he is having a really hard time.

It's only 124.5 meters, so the second round won't work.

1st round

: 20 jumpers are still up.

The first of these is Domen Prevc, who has to wait a long time but is then allowed to go down.

The Slovenian manages 125 meters and has to worry about the second round.

1st round

: The first long jump of this round.

Aleksander Zniszczol from Poland conjures up a dream jump into the wet snow of Willingen in not particularly strong conditions.

It's 146 meters, which puts him clearly in the lead.

1st round

: Kamil Stoch is now sitting on top of the beam.

It's 128 meters for the Pole.

He qualified for the second round in seventh place.

1st round

: It's really tough right now.

The updraft subsides and the rain in the approach lane results in a slower approach speed.

This means there are no long jumps.

1st round

: Niko Kytosaho had a really good qualifying jump.

However, he is having a very difficult time in the competition and with his 120.5 meters he will not be able to take part in the second round.

1st round

: The wind has died down a bit again, but Remo Imhof from Switzerland still flies at 133 meters.

He takes the lead.

1st round

: In front of Kasperi Valto has to wait a long time on the beam, but is then allowed to go down and still reaches 130 meters with a lot of upwind.

This puts him in sixth place.

1st round

: Naoki Nakamura was able to collect his first World Cup points yesterday.

Today it could be enough for the Japanese, with his 125.5 meters he is currently fourth.

1st round

: Felix Hoffmann is now the first German at the top.

He wasn't in the final yesterday.

With its 125.5 meters it will be tight again today.

1st round

: The ninth jumper in today's competition is Decker Dean from the USA.

He reaches 112.5 meters and ranks sixth.

1st round

: We have the first break in the wind ahead of the Frenchman Valentin Foubert.

In the second attempt he is allowed to go down and flies to 130.5 meters.

This means he takes the lead.

1st round

: The conditions are even more difficult today than yesterday.

The wind is extremely changeable.

It remains to be seen how this will affect competition.

1st round

: And that's how it starts here in Willingen.

Kevin Bickner sets the first distance with 116 meters.

Before jumping

: It starts here in Willingen in just a few minutes.

The competition will be opened by American Kevin Bickner.

Before jumping

: The two Norwegians Johann Andre Forfang, who won the first individual yesterday with a hill record, and Marius Lindvik are the big favorites going into the last individual before the World Cup circuit moves on to America.

Before jumping

: But Stefan Kraft was only able to qualify in 41st place.

The overall World Cup leader was eliminated in the first round yesterday.

Four Hills Tournament winner Ryoyu Kobayashi also showed a weak qualifying jump and finished in 37th place.

Before jumping

: The surprise of the day yesterday, not in the competition today.

For Antti Aalto from Finland, the qualification didn't go according to plan at all.

His compatriot Niko Kytosaho was able to convince with fourth place.

Before jumping

: Six German jumpers are about to start here.

The first is Felix Hoffmann with starting number 11. He is followed by Philipp Raimund (34), Stephan Leyhe (36), Karl Geiger (45), Pius Paschke (46) and Andreas Wellinger (49).

Qualification

: Andreas Wellinger is also through.

He ranks 20th.

The winner in the qualification is Marius Lindvik, ahead of his compatriot Johann Andre Forfang and Michael Hayböck.

Qualification

: Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke have now also made it.

Both qualified for the second individual competition.

Paschke is currently the best German in fifth place.

Qualification

: Qualification for today's competition is still in full swing.

From a German perspective, Felix Hoffmann, Philipp Raimund and Stephan Leyhe have already secured their starting place.

The Norwegian Marius Lindvik is currently leading.

Before jumping

: Hello and welcome to the live ticker for ski jumping today in Willingen.

We're about to see the second individual competition on the large hill.

Ski jumping in Willingen: The preliminary report on the individual in Willingen

The hoped-for German festival in

Willingen

, Hesse , did not take place on Saturday.

In pouring rain, the DSV team experienced a

disastrous competition

, but it also had a few surprises outside of the German debacle.

Ski jumping on Sunday: German team in low form

Only

three German jumpers

were able to qualify for the second round; in the end, local hero

Stephan Leyhe

was the best German with 15th place.

Andreas Wellinger

missed the chance to make up a lot of points in the overall World Cup on Stefan Kraft, who was eliminated in the first round.

He finished two places behind Leyhe in 17th place.

Pius Paschke

came 26th.

However, Karl Geiger

,

Philipp Raimund

and

Felix Hoffmann

, who had to give up in the first round, were

even weaker .

This means that Geiger and Raimund are still in poor form.

Ski jumping in Willingen: Forfang favorite to win after hill record

Just as surprising as the early elimination of the overall World Cup leader,

Stefan Kraft

, was the lead of

Antti Aalto

from Finland after the first round, but he fell back to 14th place in the final with a weak second jump.

The winner was

Johann Andre Forfang

from Norway, who

catapulted himself into the role of favorite for the second competition with his

hill record .

In addition to Forfang, the Four Hills Tournament winner Ryoyu Kobayashi

is also

one of the contenders for the day's victory after his second place on Saturday.

But

Andreas Wellinger

and

Stefan Kraft

will certainly be a force to be reckoned with again tomorrow.

So everything is set for an exciting second day of competition.

Qualification starts at 2:30 p.m.
