Marco Reus will not return to Borussia Mönchengladbach despite his contract at Borussia Dortmund expiring.

Mönchengladbach – The long and passionate collaboration between Marco Reus and Borussia Dortmund could end after twelve years in the summer.

The 34-year-old's contract with BVB expires at the end of the season.

The future of the 48-time German national player is currently still unclear.

Vice President Rainer Bonhof has now rejected a return to his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach, which was the subject of intense speculation.

Bonhof appreciates Reus, but is against returning to Mönchengladbach

The important decision-maker at Borussia Mönchengladbach commented on Welt TV about a possible return of Marco Reus to the Lower Rhine, where the creative player was under contract from 2009 to 2012: “I think we would then work counterproductively,” said Bonhof.

A transfer of the long-time national player would therefore mean that Gladbach would “leave the new path again”.

The 71-year-old demands: “We should stay true to our line.” Nevertheless, Bonhof appreciates the BVB professional: “I have great respect for Marco, both athletically and personally.” Nevertheless, the two parties will probably not get together again.

Where does the future lie for Marco Reus?

Gladbach's deputy Rainer Bonhof also explained Borussia's philosophy in more detail: “We replaced a number of players at the start of the new season.

In the past we didn't implement a few things according to our philosophy.

Now we are on the right track.

We still have to stabilize one or two things and then I can see our philosophy again.”

At the same time, it is still possible for Marco Reus to stay at Borussia Dortmund.

This season, the offensive man was in the starting line-up in most competitive games.

In 2024 things won't be going quite so well.

The 34-year-old scored a goal in his two substitute appearances.

Recently, however, the professional, who has worn the black and yellow jersey since 2012, was absent twice in a row due to illness.
