One day I might spread my wings. Maccabi Tel Aviv is just a stop on Henry Addo's road? - Voila! Sport

2024-02-05T12:52:45.158Z

Highlights: Henry Addo is on the verge of moving from Jilina to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Zilina has sold dozens of players in the last 20 years, even to Israel. The total amount is estimated at more than 43 million euros, and that's without counting the money coming in from percentages of future sales. Some of them did not live up to expectations and had mediocre careers, but others rose to the heights of European football or at least became good players in senior leagues. Will Edo be the next success story?

Žilina raised and improved Milan Skriniar as well as the Bundesliga's top scorer, Arsenal stopper and Newcastle goalkeeper. Will Edo be the next success story?

Summary: Arsenal - Liverpool 1:3/Sport1

Towards the end of July 2012, Zilina flew to Israel, for the return match against Kiryat Shmona in the Champions League qualifiers.

The Slovaks came to Kiryat Eliezer with a 0:1 advantage from the first game, but surrendered to an own goal by Vladimir Leitner and a goal by Shimon Abuhchira, lost 2:0 and were eliminated.

Ernest Maboka then completed 90 minutes, a few years before he returned to Haifa.

Between the goalposts stood Martin Dubrebka and on the bench sat the 17-year-old boy Milan Skriniar.

The first is playing today in Newcastle, the second in Paris Saint-Germain.

Both entered the statistics of players improved in Žilina, sold to a new destination and reached the top of European football.

Will this also be the case of Henry Addo, who is on the verge of moving from Jilina to Maccabi Tel Aviv?

Žilina has sold dozens of players in the last 20 years, even to Israel (Mabuka, Mario Pechalka).

The total amount is estimated at more than 43 million euros, and that's without counting the money coming in from percentages of future sales.

Some of them did not live up to expectations and had mediocre careers, but others rose to the heights of European football or at least became good players in senior leagues.

Maccabi Tel Aviv surely hopes that Edo's story will be like this and that it will derive a professional profit from it - and later also a financial profit through a leap similar to the one made by his predecessors.

The expected sale of Edo to Maccabi Tel Aviv left Zilina fans frustrated in the last day.

In one of their internet forums, the allegations were against him (for wanting to leave) and especially against the management (for wanting to sell).

The frustration of Zilina's few fans stems from the fact that every player who discovers potential is immediately sold to the highest bidder.

The Slovak league - maybe excluding Sloven Bratislava - is made up of teams that are the bedrock of their existence.

Adding or growing cheap players and selling in the millions.

One fan wrote: "If he leaves, I will be very disappointed with his attitude, because he leaves easily when the team wants him to stay! But we know these cases already... just get as much money as possible and that's it."

Then he replied and removed the "blame" from Edo: "The players are just following the philosophy of the club: 'Get as much money as possible while it is possible'. If every player who shows some quality is immediately sold, why would Edo's case be any different?"

Another fan wrote: "I claimed and I continue to claim that he is a good player. But he doesn't want to play here, so what can be done? There have been so many cases like this in the past."

One of the fans concluded: "All the players are just waiting to leave, and if they stay, they complain that they were not allowed to leave."
