TSV 1860 Munich remains unbeaten under Argirios Giannikis.

Three new additions make their debut.

Julian Guttau, Kilian Ludewig and Michael Glück are convincing.

Aue/Munich – In the end, the hosts, who were harmless in the game, still managed to score a goal – one that every opponent is powerless against.

When 1860 coach Argirios Giannikis marched from the pitch towards the dressing room, flanked by assistant coach Franz Hübl and sports director Christian Werner, the lion trio fell victim to a treacherous shower of mulled wine.

A sticky, hot attack that not only showed that every club has a few idiots sitting in the stands, but also gave a deep insight into the inner workings of Saturday's rivals.

TSV 1860 Munich shows a different demeanor under Giannikis

Some FC Erzgebirge Aue fans were probably hoping for more than a 0-0 draw.

But it's no longer that easy against the Lions, who will be much more stable (in terms of sport) in 2024.

In the first leg, a victory that had been thought to be certain slipped away from the Giesingers after ex-Lion Marcel Bär scored a late double strike from Auer (goal in the 85th minute, assist in the 87th minute).

This time, Giannikis' new team managed to keep themselves safe even when they were outnumbered - Phillipp Steinhart had seen a senseless and deserved red card shortly after being substituted (a tackle against Seitz in Aue's half/86th).

In general, it can be said that the Lions are showing a different face in the new year than at the very beginning of this season (under Maurizio Jacobacci).

Duels that were lost in the first half of the season in 1860, partly after leading, will end with point wins in 2024 - see Lübeck (1:1), see Sandhausen (1:1 after being behind), see Aue (0:0).

Guttau only hits the post - Oura-Tagba doesn't get the Ludewig assist

Sure: you don't make giant steps in the relegation battle by stringing together draws, but since Giannikis talks like a mantra about a "process", one thing remains clear: six points without defeat from four games is a basis.

For the new coach, the miniseries is also confirmation that what he is working on with the team is bearing fruit;

especially in a tight schedule that allows little basic work on the training pitch.

“We only allowed two chances and were unlucky even when we hit the post because the ball jumped out (Guttau/17.),” said Giannikis, summing up the uneventful zero number in the Erzgebirgsstadion: “We had other opportunities where we appeared in the final third, but "Unfortunately, we didn't finish well." Or there was a lack of killer instinct - like in the 37th minute, when the advanced Kilian Ludewig fought for a ball in an exemplary manner, but Mansour Ouro-Tagba didn't know what to do with his precise cross.

Nevertheless, the bottom line was that it looked quite homogeneous how the Lions performed in the Erzgebirge and increasingly pulled the teeth on an opponent who had started the game with a big chest (seven points from four games).

The new additions, three of whom were used straight away, also fit in to Gianniki's satisfaction.

Max Reinthaler quickly found his way into the game as representative of the suspended defense chief Jesper Verlaat.

Relegation battle in the 3rd league: Duel against Rot-Weiß Essen is coming up

The defense he organized didn't allow for much - and after he was substituted for precautionary reasons, 1860 could rely on Aue-Joker Seitz making a relatively miserable miss (73', 88').

On the other hand, Serhat Güler and Abdenego Nankishi, the new lion jokers, showed flashes of speed and technique when Giannikis let them off the leash.

In the end - outnumbered - they were also more busy trying to keep the first clean sheet since the end of October (2-0 against Freiburg).

In any case, the Lions can look forward to the catch-up game against Essen on Tuesday (7 p.m., Grünwalder Stadium) in a relaxed manner.

With a win, which the Giannikis team can be confident of, they would be in the lower midfield of the table.
