Many falls this season: German Olympic champion shoots against women skiers
Markus Wasmeier sees it completely differently.
“It was standard in my time,” the two-time Olympic champion told

The 60-year-old actually blames the women skiers: “When I look at the mistakes from Cortina, they were all extreme driving and line errors.
That surprised me a bit.”
Wasmeier goes even further and assumes that the female skiers were overwhelmed: “Perhaps the women were a bit overwhelmed on this route, because everything was actually perfect - the slope was great, the course was great, the visibility was okay.” Italy was also the most successful Skier caught at all, Mikaela Shiffrin reported from the hospital after her crash “These are mistakes that shouldn’t have happened to people like Mikaela Shiffrin,” said Wasmeier.

Wasmeier also doesn't accept the high stress of many races in quick succession as an excuse: “Every athlete rides these routes voluntarily and can decide without pressure from the association whether they want to start or not.
Everyone knows the risk, it was already like that in my time.” The former ski star from Schliersee explained that there was only a loss of strength among “athletes who ski all disciplines – and that is a small number”.
Wasmeier's theory: “Those who are currently the least fit and not the fastest need a lot more strength.
Of course it will be tiring.” Everyone would have the opportunity in the summer to prepare for the “three months of competition” in the best possible way.
It is therefore “unfair” to others “that the feasibility of such competitions is being discussed again.” Nevertheless, the current situation is dramatic: a ski star burst into tears after another orgy of falls.
