Jarl Magnus Riiber, dominator in Nordic combined and multiple overall World Cup winner, needs shoulder surgery.

Oslo – In Nordic combined, Jarl Magnus Riiber is the big dominator who wins on the assembly line.

The Norwegian will soon have to undergo shoulder surgery.

He then faces a long absence.

He will not be able to do jump training for about two months after the operation.

Winter sports star has to undergo surgery

The intervention should not take place now, but after the current season.

“I don’t want to take a break now because I still have the chance to win the overall World Cup for the fifth time,” confirmed Riiber in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper

NRK

.

The operation is planned for March 19th – directly after the last World Cup of the winter in his Norwegian home of Trondheim.

“This is when surgery has the most benefits,” Riiber continued.

Before the home World Cup in 2025, the month-long absence is still a bitter setback, because the 26-year-old can only start preparing for the next season much later than his competitors.

However, the multiple world champion cannot avoid an operation; his problems with his shoulder, which he has repeatedly struggled with, are too serious.

For example, at the end of November last year, Riiber dislocated his shoulder while celebrating at the World Cup in Kuusamo, Finland - and still won two races.

Riiber has a long-term goal of the 2026 Olympics

In the current season, Jarl Magnus Riiber is back at the top of the overall ranking and will win it again if he doesn't miss the remaining World Cups.

With his fifth success in the overall World Cup, he would draw level with the German Eric Frenzel, who also has five victories.

In addition to the overall World Cup victories, the 26-year-old won eight gold medals at world championships.

But it wasn't enough to win the Olympics.

In 2018 in Pyeongchang, the Norwegian was disappointing and only won the silver medal in the team.

In the individual competition he had a big lead after ski jumping, but suddenly took a wrong turn on the running course and missed out on a medal.

His big goal is a title at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
