Munich – A heavier challenge awaits the Lions this evening.

Rot-Weiß Essen will be coming to the stadium on Grünwalder Straße for the catch-up game on matchday 18.

The German champions from 1955 are in fifth place in the table and can improve to third place with a win in Munich.

But the Lions will compete on Giesing's heights with a broad chest.

Under new coach Arigiros Giannikis, the Blues are still unbeaten.

The 4-1 home win against Duisburg was followed by three draws in Lübeck, at home against Sandhausen and last Saturday at Erzgebirge Aue.

This evening the 43-year-old would like to extend his series with a threesome and collect important points in the fight to stay in the league.

Like the Lions, Essen has collected six points since the beginning of the year.

Coach Christoph Dabrowski started with a defeat in Aue.

The 3-1 home win against Cologne was followed by a 1-2 loss in Münster.

On Saturday, Rot-Weiß turned a 2-3 deficit into a 4-3 win against the SC Freiburg reserves with two late goals.

Last season, Essen saved a point in the first and second legs through late goals.

Due to the strong season so far, the traditional club from the Ruhr area is the favorite in the race this evening.

Will RWE jump to the relegation zone for the 2nd Bundesliga or will lion tamer Giannikis remain undefeated in his fifth game?

Kick-off is at 7 p.m.

We report live from the Grünwalder Stadium.
