Even before the start of the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, things are not going well.

The temperatures are too high, Laura Dahlmeier warns.

Nove Mesto – The Biathlon World Championships start this Wednesday (February 7th) in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

The almost two-week sports highlight begins with the mixed relay.

Even before the first competition, however, one thing is clear: this year's Biathlon World Championships will not be a real winter sports festival.

Temperatures too high at the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto

The temperatures are currently too high in Nove Mesto.

On Wednesday the thermometer will climb up to seven degrees, and there will be a 90 percent chance of rain (according to

wetter.com

).

There will probably be no fresh snow at the entire Biathlon World Championships.

Double Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier also tells

IPPEN.MEDIA exclusively: “

The climatic conditions are difficult.” However, the problems are not completely unexpected.

“We already knew a little bit that things could be difficult in Nove Mesto, but in general it’s not easier anywhere.”

Dahlmeier sees problems for complete winter sports in the Alpine region

However, the competitions are not in danger.

The organizers have taken precautions and stored 50,000 cubic meters of snow in the depot.

However, the quality of the trails will suffer due to the high temperatures.

A problem that is not exclusive to the sport of biathlon.

“If you observe it, it is not easy in the entire Alpine region.

It is far too warm for the time of year and there is not enough snow.

This applies to various winter sports, whether alpine skiing, tobogganing or, in our case, biathlon,” says Dahlmeier.

Most recently, for example, the World Cup races for women skiers in Garmisch had to be canceled.

Marco Odermatt, for example, had already complained about the poor piste conditions during the men's races a week earlier.

Fairness in sport is important to Laura Dahlmeier

So is this what the future of winter sports looks like?

Snow in depots, cross-country ski trails and pistes in the countryside?

“It won’t be any easier in the future, you have to prepare for it and be well prepared,” warns Dahlmeier.

In their opinion, temperatures that are too high like at the Biathlon World Cup this year will continue to occur in the future.

For the seven-time world champion, one thing is clear: “It is always important to me that it is fair for all athletes.

That's more important than pushing through the races at will." If necessary, races have to be canceled.

Do the organizers in Nove Mesto see it the same way?
