High-ranking visitors to the FC Sportheim: The reigning European Cup winner in bowling does the honors.

The competition in the DKBC Cup is a highlight for the Seeshaupt team.

Seeshaupt

– That would be something – a T-shirt like this with the imprint “European Cup Winner-Besieger”.

Something similar happened in football when FC St. Pauli defeated FC Bayern Munich - then newly World Cup winners - and then brought appropriately printed shirts into circulation.

It would be an almost even greater sensation if the sports bowlers from SG Seeshaupt/Weilheim defeated SV Pöllwitz in the DKBC Cup.

SG Seeshaupt/Weilheim plays against the top team in the DKBC Cup

The duel will take place next Sunday, February 11th, at Lake Starnberg.

According to sports director Manuela Seitz, it is “a great honor for the Seeshaupt team to welcome such a team to our facility.”

But the hosts don't want to be completely in awe.

“We’ll do our best,” promises Seitz.

The Upper Bavarians have already succeeded in the dress rehearsal.

The Seeshaupt team won the away match in the Bayernliga South last weekend against TSV Ingolstadt-Nord 6-2 - and thus strengthened their lead in the table.

However, it is clear to everyone at FC that the team from the Thuringian Zeulenroda-Triebes is on a completely different level than the bottom of the Bayern League.

One or two records on the bowling alleys in the FC Sportheim are in serious danger of being broken.

Because the guests currently belong to the absolute elite in German bowling.

SG Seeshaupt is a clear outsider in the cup clash

Although Pöllwitz lost the top duel in the 1st Bundesliga against SKC Victoria Bamberg 2:6 on the most recent match day and therefore had to vacate second place in the table, the values achieved in the game are impressive.

In total, the Pöllwitz sextet got 3,559 wood away;

Bamberg managed 3,687 pieces of wood.

SVP player Sarah Conrad provided the highlight of the day with 676 wood (253 in clearance).

In the second set she played 181 wood.

(All news and stories from our district can also be found on our Facebook page.)

Conrad is currently in second place in the individual rankings of the 1st Bundesliga behind Sina Beißer (Bamberg).

Her away average is 629.33 wood;

In all eleven games of the season so far, she has won her respective duel and thus the team point.

But the rest of the team also regularly achieves high results.

U23 player Selina Thiem recently achieved a personal best with 643 wood in the 7-1 win over ZKK Istra Porec (Croatia) in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League.

SV Pöllwitz is one of the German bowling elite

Speaking of the Champions League: The “Mücken”, as the Thuringian team calls itself, took third place there last season.

In the Final Four tournament, Pöllwitz first lost to SK Neunkirchen (Austria), but then won the bronze match against Istra Porec.

In the European Cup, however, they had a great success: the Thuringians won the final in Brcko, Bosnia.

This time there was a 6:2 win against Neunkirchen (3580:3456 wood).

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.)

The Seeshaupt team are hoping for a lot of spectators for the game - and want to draw strength from the atmosphere for a top performance.

A win in a direct duel would be a huge deal.

Nobody wants to seriously think about overall success and reaching the quarter-finals.

“But we don’t make it easy for them,” says Seitz.

The sports manager also points out the peculiarities of the Seeshaupter facility on Bahnhofstrasse: “Our tracks are not that easy to use.”

The Seeshaupt women have already observed the Pöllwitz team in action.

It was in October 2022;

At that time,

the FCS competed in the 2nd Bundesliga

against KC Schrezheim II.

Before that, the first Schrezheim team played their first league game against Pöllwitz.

The guests won 6:2 and scored 3470 wood.

At the time, “the atmosphere and the gaming experience were such that you immediately felt carried away,” remembers Seitz.

(The local newspapers in the Weilheim-Schongau district are represented on Instagram under “merkur_wm_sog”.)

So far, the DKBC Cup has played no role for the Seeshaupt team.

Even as a second division team, “the league season was more important to us,” says Seitz.

Now the players from Lake Starnberg decided to take part in the competition for the first time.

After a bye in round one, they achieved

a convincing home win against SKK Bad Neustadt

from the Bayernliga Nord.

“I’m really proud of the team that we’ve made it this far,” says Seitz.

Meanwhile, the women from Pöllwitz defeated the second division team Hohnstädter SV on home soil with 6:2, with two individual results beyond 650 wood being achieved.

Date:

The game in the third round of the DKBC Cup between the host SG Seeshaupt/Weilheim and SV Pöllwitz will take place on Sunday, February 11th.

Starts at 1 p.m.

The game is played on the tracks in the FC sports home on Bahnhofstrasse.
