Summary: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi Tel Aviv 0:2/Sport1

A day after the winter transfer window closed, it turns out that Maccabi Haifa was very close to signing a very high profile player in Israeli football terms.

The Greens were on the verge of signing Clinton Anji, a Cameroonian midfielder who currently plays for Sivasspor of the Turkish League and almost concluded with the Carmel club, but Maccabi Haifa was unable to complete the deal before the deadline and Anji will remain under surveillance for the summer.

The decision to try and add Anzhi was made after Danil Lesvoi received citizenship and Maccabi Haifa registered him as an Israeli.

Maybe more will come in the summer.

Anzhi is a 30-year-old winger who can also play as a striker.

He came from Cameroon to Lyon's academy at the age of 17 and flourished in the youth team alongside familiar names, such as Anthony Martial and Nabil Fakir.

In August 2014, he scored his first senior goal and finished his first season as one of the leading young players in the French league, after providing seven goals and eight assists.

The impressive numbers convinced Tottenham to pay 14 million euros for him in the summer of 2015, but at the very beginning of his career in London, Anzhi tore his knee ligaments and returned only at the end of the season.

After not finding the net in the few appearances he made in Tottenham, he was loaned to Marseille, who a year later also bought him for seven million euros.

With the team from the French Riviera, the midfielder reached the final of the Europa League in the 2017/18 season, in which he provided nine goals and seven assists in all formats.

In 2019, he was sold to Dynamo Moscow for six million euros.

In his three years in Russia Anzhi experienced a lot of problems, and since the summer of 2022 he has been in Sivaspor, where he has even collaborated with Dia Saba.

Anze also has impressive successes in the Cameroon national team: in 2017 he was a partner in winning the African Championship, when he made a total of 43 appearances in the national uniform and scored 10 goals.

Alongside this, he missed the decisive penalty in the semi-finals of the 2021 African Championship, against Egypt.

He came to the championship that is taking place these days injured and did not participate in the two games he sat on the bench.
